INTERIM SUPERINTENDENT APPROVED,
DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT NAMED
MARION COUNTY – Following a unanimous vote by members of the Marion County School Board Tuesday evening, Dr. Danielle Brewer is officially the interim superintendent of Marion County Public Schools.
Brewer will now work with Superintendent Dr. Diane Gullett over the next two months to transition MCPS to its next chapter. Gullett’s last day with MCPS is July 11, 2025. She is leaving to join an educational consultant group.
As her first official action, Interim Superintendent Dr. Brewer appointed Ben Whitehouse to be deputy superintendent, pending School Board approval.
Whitehouse is no stranger to Marion County, having grown up and attended Madison Street Academy and Fort King Middle and graduated from Forest High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in history and master’s degree in the Pro-Teach Program at the University of Florida. His Educational Specialist degree is in Educational Leadership from National Louis University, where last week he was inducted into the NLU Alumni Hall of Fame.
In 2004, Whitehouse started his teaching career at West Port Middle and High Schools, becoming the testing coordinator and assistant principal of Discipline five years later. Three years after that, he became assistant principal of Curriculum. In 2013, he was named principal at North Marion High School and moved to district administration four years later, serving as area director and director of Student Pathways and Assessment. In 2023, he moved to director of Assessment, Accountability, and Research.
Whitehouse is also a former Marion County Social Studies Teacher of the Year, led MCPS efforts to become nationally accredited by Cognia, is an adjunct professor at NLU, and serves on the board of directors for CareerSource Citrus-Levy-Marion.
