Club: Speech & Debate
Sponsor: Ms. Marcia Flaig & Mr. Matthew Warren
Purpose: To provide a platform for developing and practicing the principles of organized and intellectual speaking. To develop participants into charismatic speakers and debaters, as well as develop them into functioning members of society. All members of the team serve this purpose by studying public speaking techniques and applying those techniques to argumentation and individual speaking situations. To spread the message of the importance of the spoken word, as well as the importance of healthy debate and acknowledging and respecting others’ perspectives and opinions.
Requirements: Desire to excel in FHS Speech & Debate competitions and maintain good student conduct. Come to practices regularly. Maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher. No debts owed to the school.
Grade Levels: All Grades (9-12)
Meeting Location/Times: Room A168 afterschool on Wednesdays 3:00-4:00 and on Activity D during Activity Weeks.
Major Activities: There are competitions throughout the school year within Marion County.
Fundraisers: To be determined.
