AP Statistics

Biography:

I am in my third year of teaching AP Statistics at Forest High School. Statistics is a course where we collect data and figure out how to predict the likelihood of future occurrences, such as future performance based upon past performance, future chances of the Pittsburgh Steelers winning the Superbowl, what are the odds of the next card being a face card or ace, or even did I get the right distribution of colors in my M&M's?

My background is varied and differentiated, but in every position previously held, I have always been able to apply my background of education and mathematics.

My business career has included such quality companies as Bank of America, Sears Holdings Corporation, and Pepsico/Frito Lay North America. I have held positions in sales, local management, and corporate leadership. Whenever any employer has interviewed me for a position, they always ask how a mathematics degree will help me. The answer is simple. Mathematics gives practice in developing problem solving, structured and logical thinking skills.

After applying my knowledge in the corporate world for 20+ years, I am happy to have found a home and community where I can contribute to the WILDCAT way. By teaching here in Marion County at Forest, we are preparing the students for the future. No other environment is like that of Forest, where students are expected to exemplify, build, and use their education daily, and where I can relate to them the many uses of mathematics, both directly and indirectly, for the real world and help students build towards their future goals!

Prior to starting her career as a teacher, Mrs. Grimsley danced for Disney in Shows and Parades at all 4 Walt Disney World Parks in Orlando. She spent much of her childhood and teenage years as a competitive dancer, and then started working for Disney at 16 years old, fulfilling a dream she had as a child. Biography:

I was born and raised in Vermont where I attended the University of Vermont and received my BS of Science degree. My family hails from Quebec via Poitiers France where our first French ancestor came over as a fur trader, married the daughter of a famous Algonkin medicine-man Etienne Pigarouiche and maintained strong ties to the Native American community there. I have over thirty years teaching experience and my greatest honor was being lucky enough to work for two National Principals of the year at West Port HS and Champlain Valley Union HS in Vermont. I consider myself a bit of a utility player having taught AP World , AP Euro, AP Government, AP US History, AP Psychology, AP Human Geography as well as IB History. In addition to my teaching experience, I have over thirty years coaching experience and have been blessed to be a part of State, District and Regional State Championship teams in Cross Country, Track, Girls Basketball and Crew. The highlights of my career include winning a Vermont Small Business Award for Excellence in Education, being a two-time recipient of Who's Who of Americas Teachers, serving on the Virginia Standards of Learning World History Assessment Committee, winning the 2013 District Cross Country Coach of the Year and coaching back to back Vermont Girls Basketball State Championship teams where two of our players went on to win National Championships with the legendary coach Gino Auriemma at UConn. Those pale in comparison though to being the father of three wonderful sons and as much as I love teaching and coaching, my family is the most important thing to me. It has been a wonderful blessing to have so many amazing leaders and colleagues in my life; and to have experienced such diverse and creative teaching experiences. I hope to bring that experience here to the Forest CCAP program.
