Changing Your School
Marion County is very proud to offer high quality educational opportunities in all of our schools, while also providing several additional options to meet the many needs of our students and families. Our school choice options are described in the Reference Guide.
Students in grades K–12, that have either an Individual Education Plan, (IEP) or a 504 accommodation plan may be eligible for a McKay Scholarship.
To determine eligibility, follow the steps found below. There are three options available to eligible students:
You may apply to a private school, utilizing a voucher that the Florida Department of Education provides. For a list of approved private schools, go to the Florida School Choice Website.
You may apply to attend a public school, other than your zoned school, if the school has the required program and has Controlled Open Enrollment. You would apply through the Marion County Public Schools ESE Department. Contact Rose Rice at (352) 671-6832
You may apply through an Out-of-County Release to attend a public school in another Florida school district.
