Week 4 September 14th - September 18th
Monday - BW: What would you use the rooms for if you were quarantined in Prospero’s House? Ms. Gilliam assigned students the Masque of the Red Death Quarantine Hose assignment for students to work on after giving them an example of what to include and how draw it. Students began working on it for the rest of the period.
Tuesday - BW: What is a Myth? Students were given some time in the beginning of class to finish the Masque of the Red Death Quarantine House assignment. The assignment was collected before notes began. Ms. Gilliam gave students the origin myths fill-in notes sheet to take notes on Origin Myths, which she presented to the class.
Wednesday - BW: What myths or urban legends do you know? Ms. Gilliam passed out the Archetypes Notes sheet for students to take notes on the table while going over Character Archetypes.
Thursday/Friday - BW: Based on accounts of creation, how were humans, animals and landscapes created? As a class, we read the origin myth, “Earth on Turtle’s Back”. As we read, students were instructed to use 2 different highlighters to highlight biblical and mythological similarities they found in the story, as well as any Native American cultural indications. We then answered some guiding questions about the Earth on Turtle’s Back. Students were then assigned the Analyze Word Choice Sheet to fill out.

Week 3 September 7th - September 11th
Monday - L A B O R D A Y
Tuesday - BW: Did going over vocab help? Students picked up where they left off on The Masque of the Red Death questions. We went over questions 4 – 5 together and then students were to finish questions 6-9 on their own.
Wednesday - BW: What would have been a better response to the Red Death in The Masque of the Red Death? We read the text “Scurvy at Sea” as a class and then began answering the Scurvy at Sea questions after discussing the story.
Thursday/Friday - BW: How do you structure your essays? Students were given 10-15 minutes to finish answering their Scurvy at Sea questions. BW was collected along with the questions. Ms. Gilliam then went over some essay structure tops for the essay and paragraphs of the essay. Students began writing their culminating writing task for the CRL on the Chromebooks in Google Classroom.

Week 2 August 31st - September 4th
Monday - BW: Rate your Vocab Skills Students were tasked with answering the Overarching Question on the very 1st page of their CRL Packet and then we discussed it as a class. They were then given the definitions to the 11 vocab words in “The Masque of the Red Death”.
Tuesday - BW: Create sentences for the Vocab words Students were instructed to finish column 2 of the Vocab Chart for ALL Vocab words left in The Masque of the Red Death. Students were given Starbucks Mode to complete this!
Wednesday - LAB DAY!!!! Students went into the lab to sign up for Google Classroom. They then typed up their Overarching Question to submit in Google Classroom for Practice. After that, students opened up a power point that contained the definitions for their Vocab chart so that they could fill out column 3.
Thursday/Friday - BW: What is the Masque of the Red Death about? Ms. Gilliam checked the vocabulary chart for a grade. After that, students labeled their CRL packet by numbering the paragraphs. We then read The Masque of the Red Death short story as a whole. Students were then given The Masque of the Red Death Questions and were to answer questions 1- 4 along with the rest of the class.

Week 1 August 24th - August 28th
Monday - Welcome remarks! Shedules and going over WP Rules! First Day in Ms. Gilliam's Class Power Point
Tuesday - Learn about Ms. Gilliam and Her Class! Ms. Gilliam also assigned an Introduce Yourself activity in Google Classroom!
Wednesday - Syllabus Review, Google Classroom/Remind Sign-Up, Extra Syllabus Info, Classroom Discipline Rules,
Website Review, Ms. Gilliam's Class Room Tour
Thursday/Friday - Students were assigned the COVID Free Write where they had to show their best writing with a prompt related to COVID. We discussed the Free Write and then went to get textbooks on this day as well! Students were given their CRL Packet that they will be working on for the next few weeks. They also were given a vocabulary chart to begin using context clues to cipher meanings of words form the text we will be reading first, “The Masque of the Red Death”.
