The purpose of this program is to provide students with a foundation of knowledge and technically oriented experiences in the study of communications technology. This program focuses on transferable skills and stresses understanding and demonstration of the technological tools, machines, instruments, materials, processes and systems in business and industry. Communications Technology represents the current and expanding digital technology.
Communication Technology 1: Provides students with basic knowledge, skills, and attitudes related to this real-world program. The content includes Safety, Basic History, Offset Printing, B&W and Digital Photography, Screen Printing, Rotary and LASER Engraving, Vinyl / Sign Making, Large Format Digital Printing, 3D Printing, and Desktop Adobe CC Publishing. The students will document their work in a DIGITAL PORTFOLIO that will show what they have accomplished throughout the year.
Communication Technology II, III and Advance Tech Apps: Provides further knowledge, skills and attitudes related to this real-world program. Students will expand their abilities in Offset Printing, Screen Printing, Rotary and LASER Engraving, B&W and Digital Photography, Large Format Printing, Digital Printing “Color Laser, Ink Jet, Electrostatic”, Scanning, Vinyl / Sign Making, 3D Printing, and Digital Presentation. The Advance classes work as a business. Learning entrepreneurship skills and enters competition “Tampa State Competition, FAFO, FGA, and SGIA Awards” during the school year. Students are expected to continue collating their DIGITAL PORTFOLIO using exemplars of their work.
Classroom Expectations: Communication Technology is created as a real-world program with a job like atmosphere. I expect students to be PRESENT and PREPARED for class. They should UNDERSTAND what task we are doing and ASK QUESTIONS if they do not. While working, they should be ENGAGED and putting forth their best effort to keep a POSITIVE learning environment. Finally, students should RESPECT themselves, other students, staff, and the school, while taking RESPONSIBILITY for their actions.
Grading Criteria: MCPS Grading Scale A=100-90 B=89-80 C=79-70 D=69=60 F=59-0
Gradebook consist of 50% on Test/Projects, 30% Quiz/Classwork, and 20% on DIGITAL PORTFOLIO
Exam Criteria / PORTFOLIO:
The ultimate output of this course is a design portfolio created by the student. Each original item or product included in the portfolio should include a narrative description and an explanation of the technical approach or techniques used to create the item. Students are REQUIRED to keep a USB DIGITAL PORTFOLIO. A minimum of TWO competencies and TWO digital assignments will be graded every 4 ½ weeks “1 per a week” for a 70% C. These competencies are fulfilled through the student’s hands-on activites done in class.
MOST make-up/late work can be turned in any time before the end of the school year. MOST make-up/late work must be done in class with extra time the STUDENT creates by finishing their assignments first.
Tardy Policy: Instructional time is very important so students should be on time.
1st Tardy=Verbal Warning 2nd Tardy=Written Warning 3rd Tardy=Parent Phone Contact 4th Tardy=Referral and each time thereafter. Tardy’s are RESET every Semester
Electronic Devices: Should be kept out of sight, unless otherwise instructed by the teacher. There will be times when we use it for class projects but use other than instructed classwork will result in disciplinary actions.

Food & Drink: Is a privilege that will be allowed in the classroom and can be taken away if not respected.
