    Course Description: This course is an intensive study of Euclidian Geometry. The fundamental purpose of this course is to practice complex geometric situations and deepen explanations of geometric relationships, moving towards formal mathematical arguments. A strong background in Algebra 1 is necessary to be successful. 

    Topics Covered:  Tools of Geometry; Reasoning and Proof; Parallel and Perpendicular Lines; Congruent Triangles; Relationships within Triangles; Polygons and Quadrilaterals; Similarity; Right Triangles and Trigonometry; Transformations; Area, Perimeter, Circumference of Polygons and Circles; Surface Area and Volume of Polyhedrons; Properties of Circles 

     Supplies Needed:  

    • Pencils 
    • 1 inch, 3 ring binder with dividers(for Math only)
    • Notebook paper
    • Graph Paper
    • Geometric compass
    • Ruler
    • Protractor
    • Pen (not black)
    • TI30XA Calculator (state approved calculator for EOC testing)
    • Headphones
    • Optional but encouraged to buy items: index cards, highlighters, colored pencils, dry erase marker, sanitizer

     Classroom Expectations:

    • Be respectful: Be respectful of those in authority, your peers, your belongings and yourself.  Be sure to treat others the way you want to be treated.  Be sure to use kind words (no profanity) and actions.
    • Be cooperative: Be attentive (while I talk-you listen).  Be sure to KEEP YOUR CELL PHONE ON SILENT AND IN YOUR BACKPACK during class, unless otherwise instructed.  Finish your food and drink before class.  Be sure to show all your work when answering questions.
    • Be responsible: Be in your seat when the tardy bell rings.  Be on task and prepared for class every day.  Be responsible for your own learning.  Be sure to keep current on your work and follow BHS handbook when making up work.
    • Be safe: Keep our classroom neat.  All four chair legs on floor.  Hall passes are required at BHS.  Follow all BHS safety guidelines.

    Grading Scale: 

    A = 100 - 90%, B 89 -80%, C = 79 - 70%, D = 69 - 60%, F 59 - 0%. 

    Grading Policy:

    20% of grade is Learning Checks (e.g. activities, warmups, and QSMAs)

    30% of grade is Classwork (e.g. any individually completed classwork/homework assignments)

    50% of grade is Assessments (e.g. Unit Tests, Mini-Assessments, Vocabulary Tests, and Projects) 

    • Classwork/Homework:Classwork and homework are to practice concepts, not to burden you with busy work.  You are expected to participate in both by taking notes, asking questions, open class discussions, and/or by being active during lesson. 
    • Mini Assessments:Mini assessments are short mid unit checkpoints to gauge understanding of the concepts.  Occasionally, these will be partner assessments.  
    • Unit Tests: We will have a test after we complete each unit.   
    • Quarterly Assessments (QSMA): Each quarter we will have an assessment from the county. These assessments will help identify areas needing more practice as we prepare for the EOC.
    • Projects: Learning activities to practice “real-life” conception of topics/skills studied.
