Welcome to Mr. Umana’s reading class. I’m super excited to have each and every one of you in my class this year. I can’t wait to see the many great things you will be able to accomplish in my class. I’m looking forward to getting to know each one of you. Although I know that we will not meet in person for the time being, I am excited to virtually get to know you all and get to work improving your reading skills.
This year we will be using Microsoft Teams. This platform is quite amazing and has so many tools to make learning online so mcuh more efficient. Below you will find a presentation that guides you on how to get started on Microsoft Teams. The online version of this course will be a bit different from the in-person class in terms of the reading content and materials. The reading strategies and skills that we will be working on will, for the most part, be the same. Although the online students will not be meeting face-to-face in school, each student is still expected to be responsible for logging in when they are supposed to and for completing work on time.
This year, 2020, has been anything but normal. I understand that every individual student and their families have gone through different situations during this time and I want to always put that into consideration. Please talk to me and let know of anything that you believe I need to know going into this year. I care about what you have to say.

Third Block 2:01 - 3:45
Office Hours: In the case that you want to get in contact with me, I will be available via email on all district work days, Monday-Friday from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. Please keep in mind that teachers have 24-48 hours to respond to emails. Emailing me will be the most efficient way to get in contact with me since I do have in-person classes as well and the opportunities to talk on the phone will be limited. The most efficient way to talk on phone with me will be by setting up a time in advance via email to talk. I will be available to talk in the morning before classes begin and in the afternoon after all classes are done. Otherwise I may have time during the day but it will have to be a specific predetermined time. Thank you in advance for working with me as a team to ensure that our students are being successful.
