Degrees and Certifications:
Hello, and welcome to the 2020/2021 school year! My name is Mr. Thompson, and I teach Theatre I and II, Advanced Theatre, and Technical Theatre. This will be my second year at Howard Middle, my third year teaching, and first in the Theatre Department (last year I had the pleasure of teaching Advanced 6th Grade English/Language Arts).
I am originally from Texas, but I’ve lived all over, including Mississippi, Rhode Island, New Jersey, New York City, and, most recently, New Orleans, so as a result, my accent tends to shift, so don’t be startled. I received my BA in Theatre from Millsaps College, my MFA in Performance Theatre from The Actors Studio Drama School at New School University, and my Masters in Public Policy and Administration (Environmental Policy) from Jackson State University. I am married to Lisa and have a daughter, Bellé, and am allowed to share my home with two dogs (Vinnie and Stella) and two cats (Bitty-Kitty and Skeeter-Boom).
I began acting professionally as a child, and have worked in film, television, sketch comedy, and improvisational theatre, but the majority of my work was on stage. I am excited to share as much as I’ve been privileged to learn over my career with my students, and introduce them to a world they might not yet have encountered.
I am looking very forward to this year, and making the most out of our time.
