First Grade is a big year for reading growth. Your child will be developing into an independent reader. It is extremely important that your child is reading 20 minutes each night to support reading success. In our classroom your child will participate in whole group and small group reading instruction to meet his or her specific needs. Here are some of your child's end of year goals.
Be independently reading on a DRA level 16 by end of year.
Automatically read all 1st grade tricky words.
Be able to gain meaning from grade level texts.

First grade is an important year for math development. Your child grows in his or her addition and subtraction fluency and the foundation for place value concepts are laid. It is important that your child develops problem solving skills and builds strategies for math thinking. Here are some of your child's end of year goals.
- Add and subtract within 100.
- Understand two digit numbers as representing tens and ones
- Solve addition and subtraction word problems.
- Grow understanding of money, time, and measurement.
