Homemade Recipes

  • Play Dough (reusable)

    • 2 Cups of Corn Starch
    • About 1 Cup of inexpensive hair conditioner (make sure you like the smell)
    • Food Coloring (optional...this will get on your hands)

Mix together in a LARGE bowl until it comes together.  It will take a few minutes before you get it mixed together, just keep mixing with your hands till the dough to come together.

Store play dough in a plastic bowl with lid or a ziplock bag.

    Salt Dough Clay (oven dried)

    • 2 Cups of All-Purpose Flour
    • 1 Cup of Salt
    • 1 Cup of Warm Water

In a LARGE bowl mix water and salt until dissolved.

Gradually add flour to form a soft dough.

Roll, cut, color, paint, and play with your dough.

Bake at 250* until dry  (1-2 hours depending on thickness)

    Side Walk Chalk Paint

    • 3 cups of Corn Starch
    • 2-4 dashes of food coloring (various colors)
    • 3 cups of water (more or less depending on the consistency you want)
    • 4-6 plastic bowls or a 6 cup muffin tin
    • paint brushes (preferably 1 inch or larger)
    • Food coloring

This recipe can be made with smaller amounts too, using equal parts of corn strch and water.  Using a large mixing bowl, add the water to the cornstarch and mix well until clumps are gone.  Divide equal amounts into your separate bowls, add a few drops of food coloring to each bowl to create your colors, mixing well.

While painting you'll want to keep your colors looking vibrant, use your paint brush to give the pant a stir as thecorn starch will settle on the bottom.

The colors will look more brilliant as the paint dries.  Works great on all types of sidewalks and driceways.  Try painting some garden rocks too.  Clean-up is a breeze, washes away easily with water, or let the rain take care of it.  Non-toxic and safe for the gardens, it will acturally help the soil retain moisture better!
