***Per Florida directive, all MCPS schools are closed through the remainder of this school year.***

DISTANCE LEARNING continues through June 1, the last day of school.

There will NOT be a ZOOM meeting this morning. Our next classwide ZOOM meeting will take place TOMORROW (WED) at 9:00 am. I will send out the meeting code and password tomorrow morning about 8:00.

-Be sure to answer the daily attendance question--this is very important so please take a few minutes each morning to log into Google Classroom and answer so that you can receive credit for attending class each day.

-SPECIALS this week is--MUSIC, so be sure to check in with Mrs. Mills and check out her teacher webpage/Google Classroom to complete the tasks/assignments you are responsible for in music this week

-I posted a video on Google Classroom about how to upload/submit assignments, be sure you watch that....part of your grade on tasks/assignments is getting them submitted ON-TIME so review that video to assist you with getting them uploaded

-The Distance Learning grading policy is included below....I am getting grades put in to Skyward as quickly as I can, but please be patient :-) (it takes some time to locate each assignment, view it, grade it, mark it was submitted, and then input the grade, so I appreciate the patience!!!)

-Let me know if you have any questions! We are currently in WEEK 4 of 9 for distance learning and you all are doing a great job! KEEP IT UP!!!!!

    Have a Terrific Tuesday!!!!

    -Mrs. Poole

All weekly assignments/tasks have been posted to Google Classroom, the work is due by Friday at 8:00 pm. Be sure you plan your week accordingly so that you are able to get everything submitted by the due date/time. You have MUSIC this week for specials, so you must check in with Mrs. Mills to see what the expectation for music is this week.

The grading policy for distance learning is as follows:

100-for assignments submitted on-time with minimal errors

    90-for assignments submitted on-time with ~75% accuracy

    80-for assignments submitted on-time with ~50% accuracy

    70-for assignments submitted on-time with >50% accuracy

60-for assignments submitted on-time with little to no accuracy

    *-for assignments never turned in

I have to go into the gradebook and make adjustments to grades today, so the gradebook will be unavailable for updated grading until I make those adjustments. Please be patient with grades!! It takes alot of work to cross-check each student with each assignment and review them via the computer/messages/texts/emails. I expect that everyone will do well with grading for Q4, so don't worry....and if you are concerned about your grade after I make the necessary adjustments please reach out to me so that we can figure out a plan to improve the grades.

Email/Message me if you have any questions! Have a great day friends!!!

Good Morning! Welcome to WEEK 3!!!!

All assignments/tasks for the week have been posted to Google Classroom, along with the weekly checklist. Please let me know if a question or concern arises as you tackle the work for this week! I am working to link up our Google Classroom to Common Lit (the site where our ELA reading passages come from) to make accessing those passages a little easier (hopefully). I hope to have that set up today, so stay tuned for a message regarding that. Your grades for last weeks work will be updated this week--don't worry too much about your grading, we are still working together as a team to figure out the best way to document the work you are doing to receive credit!!

We will have another ZOOM meeting on Wednesday at 9:00. I will send that information out on Tuesday evening for you to join in if you would like.

You guys keep up the good work! Y'all have been doing some great things with your assignments and tasks, so keep it up!!

Email/message/class dojo me if you have questions or concerns arise as you work on the assignments this week. I enjoy hearing from you and think you guys always have really important questions! My office hours are 8:30-9:30 and 1:00-2:00. I usually always have my phone with me to answer questions as they come through.

Lastly, remember to answer the attendance question EACH DAY so that you receive credit for actively participating in class each day. It is posted to Google Classroom about 8:00 each morning :-)

    Thursday April 9--afternoon/evening message

I hope everyone had a great day! Our ZOOM meeting is scheduled for 9:00 am tomorrow morning. The meeting code is: 197 070 616 and the PW is: 4xxzag

I HOPE this one will be a success--we had ALOT of difficulty with our meeting set for this morning, so I am hoping this one will be good to go!

Assignments are due tomorrow evening by 8:00 pm. Please let me know if you have any questions...there have been a few questions about the SCIENCE assignment so I want to clarify how to complete that. The packet contains 3 sheets of boxes explaining different parts of an experimental investigation with a 4th page that has 3 scenarios (questions).....you need to read each of the "steps" (1-6) and then use those steps you read about and learned about to complete pg 4 (the questions). For example, question 1 is asking specifically about the controlled group...so based on what you read, describe what the control group would be in this particular scenario. I hope this helps! If you need further assistance let me know.

Have a great evening and I hope to see some of you in the meeting tomorrow morning!

    Best, Mrs. Poole

    -Mrs. Poole

    Monday April 6 (afternoon message)

It was great to see several of you this morning during our ZOOM meeting!! I enjoy seeing your faces that I have been missing!

The weekly assignments are all posted on Google Classroom, so please be sure you take a look at everything that is due by Friday at 8:00 for this week. You can use the weekly checklist to assist you with assignment details and to double check you are completing everything. You must remeber to complete iReady Reading and Math, Reflex Math, Reading Plus, and independent reading in addition to the weekly assignments.

There has been some questions about getting work submitted--especially as it pertains to the PDF files that are part of your work. You can create your own method of doing this so that it is convenient for you, but I would suggest to answer questions from ALL PDFs onto another sheet of paper (with handwriting it on your own paper OR creating a GOOGLE DOC/GOOGLE SLIDE) and then uploading that for submission. You can do that a number of ways, but I think it is easiest to take a picture of the completed work and then upload that pic as a file--those of you that don't have your own phone ask to use your parents. I am sure they wouldn't mind lending you their phone to assist you with homework completion.

I will have another ZOOM meeting tomorrow morning at 8:30, but will most likely only have ZOOM meeting 2-3 times a week moving forward. Anytime a ZOOM meeting is planned I will alert you to the meeting with invite details. It is VITAL that you stayed tuned into your email, google classroom, this webpage, and class dojo for ANY class updates or information.

You guys have gotten off to a great start! Keep up the good work and do the best you can!

I NEED everyone to be sure they are attending to the daily attendance question. This serves as my daily "check-up" with you and ensures that you are getting credit for attending class each day. While many of you are doing this consistently, there are several students that are struggling to make this a priority....remember we are still in school and still learning so taking this quick step helps to ensure you are an active participant in our new way of learning!

This week you all have PE with Coach Rivera for specials.....the assignment is 30 minutes of activity EVERY DAY. You need to be sure that you are documenting this activity each day and then getting that information to Coach for him to review. If you have additional questions, please reach out to him directly: angel.rivera@marion.k12.fl.us or see his teacher webpage.

I think that is it for today. Let me know if you have any questions and look for the morning ZOOM meeting info on morning message, class dojo, and google classroom tomorrow morning around 8:00 am.

Have a great afternoon!! Miss you guys!!

    -Mrs. Poole

    Monday April 6 (morning message)

Good Morning! Today starts WEEK 2 of distance learning! We will have our ZOOM meeting this morning at 8:30 am. The meeting code is: 111 030 623 and the Password is: 866333--remember that ZOOM meetings aren't mandatory but if you would like to join in please do. You MUST answer the daily attendance question by 9:30 am to receive credit for being in class each day. The question is posted in our Google Classroom every morning.

Your weekly assignments/tasks for ALL core subjects will be posted in Google Classroom this morning and are due Friday by 8:00 pm. You will have all week to get the work completed and submitted. Remember you will need to figure out the best way for you to get work completed and uploaded to each of the subject threads. Some of you are still trying to figure out what works best, so try and figure that out this week.

The weekly checklist will also be available on Google Classroom for you to check for work completion. It will be available for you to review on Monday mornings--this was changed from Sunday evening.

I hope you had an enjoyable weekend! Make today GREAT!!

    -Mrs. Poole

    Friday April 3 (afternoon message)

Yayyyy! We made it through the 1st week of "distance learning"!!! We have faced challenges, issues, and LOTS of questions, but we made it:-)

The weekly task/assignment checklist will be issued Sunday evening for next week (April 6-10). We will have a ZOOM meeting Monday morning and I will also send out the meeting code for that Sunday evening as well.

Please remember that daily attendance is MANDATORY and the way to receive credit for "class" is by answering the daily question posted to Google Classroom BY 9:30 AM EVERY MORNING!!! We were lenient with this the last 3 days, but attendance is required. If you are marked absent, the automated absence phone call will take place. ZOOM meetings are NOT mandatory but provides an opportunity to see each other and get some answers or clarification to direct questions/concerns.

I hope you enjoy the weekend! Stay safe, healthy and at-home!!!! See you next week!

    -Mrs. Poole :-)

    Friday April 3 (morning message)

Happy Friday! Week 1 of distance learning is coming to a close!! You all have done a wonderful job of logging into our class sites, checking emails and messages, and getting tasks/assignments completed. Our Friday morning ZOOM meeting will take place in about 20 minutes....here is the meeting access information if you need it:

**remember that ZOOM meetings aren't required, they are available if you can participate, but you don't have to**

    Topic: Friday ZOOM meeting
    Time: Apr 3, 2020 08:30 AM

    Meeting ID: 171 818 622
    Password: 741337

Remeber to answer the daily attendance question to receive credit for attending "class" that day. I will be posting some ZOOM meeting expectations to our google classroom site and emailing them to you as well. ELA/MATH/Science assignments have all be assigned and are due this weekend.

Be sure you read yesterday's afternoon message with several helpful hints if you are still having challenges with technology. It also contains information regarding your special classes and what special classes look like for distance learning.

    Make today great!

    -Mrs. Poole

    Thursday April 2 (afternoon message)

It has really been wonderful to hear from so many of you over the last couple of days! We only have a few friends that are still working on getting their chromebooks and joining in with us. I think our first week of "distance learning" is going really well!!!

I wanted to let you know that I have designated "office hours" from 8:30-9:30 and 1:00-2:00. I can always be reached via email, google classroom, or class dojo for messages. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need me for anything.

    Here are some helpful hints:

*The technology helpdesk is available to assist you with any computer or technology issues or concerns you may have. The number for contacting them is: 352-671-7000, so reach out to them if you or your parents are having some issues with technology.

*The school has a lending library set up at the front of the school (near the bike rack) where you can "rent" books and return them when you get done reading. Take advantage of this reading opportunity!

*Also at school there is a supply cabinet set up in the same area (bike rack) that has pencils, paper, glue, etc. if you find that you need some school supplies to complete any of your assignments or tasks.

Below is some information regarding specials. If you need specific information or have direct questions, you can always email Ms. Adelman (ART), Ms. Miils (MUSIC), and Coach Nelson/Coach Rivera/Coach Mandren (PE). Remeber teacher emails are in the following format: firstname.lastname@marion.k12.fl.us

Mrs Poole's class has a Google Classroom for ART. The code for joining that class is: sou2jd6 (REMEMBER--you can only join google classroom when going through your student portal).

The following is the specials schedule for 5th grade: April 6-10--PE with Rivera; April 13-17--ART; April 20-24--MUSIC; April 27-May1--PE with Rivera

ZOOM meetings aren't mandatory (some of you have been asking)....it is a great way to connect, see each other, see me, and ask questions. It can be hard to hear when everyone talks at the same time, so to make the meetings more meaningful, we will ALWAYS have our microphones muted unless we are asking a question OR when I call on you directly. If you have a question or need clarification, just raise your hand (just as if we were in class) and I will answer/address it when you are called on.

Answering the attendance question is something you need to do everyday. This is how you get credit for being in "class" that day. Checking your emails, class dojo, google classroom is something you need to do everyday.

You can submit your work to me either directly to the post in Google Classroom or by emailing it to me.

I will send out tomorrow mornings ZOOM meeting access info later today after I get the meeting set up. I hope you all are having a great afternoon!

    -Mrs. Poole

    Wednesday April 1, 2020 (afternoon/evening annoucement)

*Assignment submissions can be completed in the way you choose: paper/pencil (wiring out answers), Google Docs, answering directly to the Google Classroom thread, etc.--what is important is that however you choose to complete the tasks/assignment be sure you have a way to upload the work so that I can grade it and give credit for doing it.

*Attendance is taken DAILY by 9:30 am by answering the daily question that will be put into the Google Classroom thread.....answer directly to the question so that I can mark you present for the day BY 9:30 am....if you are unable to get to Google Classroom for the day for whatever reason you need to be sure that you make contact with me in another way (email/dojo) BY 9:30 for attendance credit. Phone calls about not being in attendance for school will start occurring if you are marked absent.

*FINALLY, parents and students....we are ALL new to this new way of learning. Let's be patient as we transition into our new platform. We will get through this!

Have a good evening and I will be in touch tomorrow.

PLEASE be patient and understanding as well all work together through this new way of learning. I am learning about the process as well. I am doing my best to return emails and messages just as quickly as I can.

Attendance will be taken EVERYDAY, so checking in with me is going to be vital to ensure that you get credit for participation in the new distance learning model.

Good Morning! I hope that each of you is doing well and staying healthy!! I miss each of you, but am excited about our online learning that will be taking place over the next couple of weeks. As of right now, school has been moved to this online learning (distant learning) platform until April 15. Once that date gets closer we will know more about what the next step will be.

For now, please know that you can access any of the online learning opportunities that we have utilized in class this year: Reflex Math, iReady Reading and Math, Reading Plus, etc. You can also use ANY learning games that you all know of during this time as well (prodigy, Kahn Academy, Kahoot, funbrain, etc.).

Be on the lookout for any reading assignments, activities, or other learning materials through this web page.
