    Adaptive Art Activities

    · Sorting color objects at home: examples Legos, fruit, clothing, toys

      Any of these objects can be sorted by colors and placed in piles according to colors.

    · Sorting by shapes: Cut any paper, cereal box, or cardboard into the five basic shapes circle, square, rectangle, triangle creating multiple of the same shape. Have your child sort them into the five shapes. ( if you use cardboard or a cereal box help you child trace each shape and color them in. ) Markers tend to be a great medium if a students has difficulty applying pressure with a crayon or pencil.

    · Find different textures in your home: Have your child touch each surface. Examples find something soft, bumpy, fuzzy, rough, smooth. Ask your child what is feels like. If your child is non-verbal rub their hand over the object and say the word with them. Ask them to point to the soft texture, bumpy texture, etc.

    · Have your child find objects around the house that are the primary colors: red, yellow, blue
