DISTANCE LEARNING GUIDELINES (Adapted from the "Marion County Public Schools Distance Learning Handbook Grades 6-12".)
ZOOM is an app that will allow us to meet virtually. I will invite you to meet by posting an invitation link on the webpage.
ONLINE PROFESSIONALISM Please, remember to model appropriate behaviors in an online setting. Consider the guidelines below as we move to a virtual instruction platform:
- Maintain separate sites for personal and school use. Use your school email address and not your personal email addresses.
- Dress appropriately when appearing in video streaming.
- Be cognizant of background noises in phone and streaming conversations. Background sounds from pets, television, and conversations from others in the household can be distracting in an online setting. Find a quiet place when meeting online.
- Prior to appearing online, make sure that you blur your background or are in a school appropriate/professional setting. This includes removing food and drink from your workstation when meeting online.
PARENT CONFERENCES Parents, we can continue to hold conferences, via phone, or provide progress updates, via email. In addition, the Skyward Parent and Student Portals will still be available for parents and students to keep abreast of student progress. Zoom will be available for more traditional conferences. School administration will help us to facilitate these, as necessary.
STUDENT ATTENDANCE Taking attendance is still a legal obligation, even in an online setting, and is a record that is frequently monitored for compliance. It is important that records are maintained and accurate. Teachers will continue to take student attendance in Skyward. Please, if we do not communicate during the day, log onto Skyward and mark that you are actively engaged in your coursework.
EMAIL I will be checking my email daily - regularly throughout each day. I will try to respond to emails in a timely manner. Please, remember that, as you wait for your response, I may be virtually meeting with another student, group of students(s), or even another parent. In addition, I may be in the process of doing a virtual lecture, grading assignments, or creating future lessons.
STUDENTS WITHOUT HOME DEVICE OR INTERNET ACCESS Please contact the school administration as they are working on appropriate plans to aid students.
