Good morning my wonderful students! Today is the official last day for Seniors! Woohoo! The official last day for everyone else is June 1st, so the rest of you guys are very close!
As previously mentioned, today is also the last day of my classes. At this point, all of the Skyward assignments have closed for the last time and worksheet versions (found here: Alternative Assignments) are due today.
Today and tomorrow I will be finalizing ALL grades, not just Senior grades. I will be checking and double-checking all online assignments for accuracy and making sure students receive the highest grade earned (if there were multiple attempts made). I will be going through all worksheet assignments and entering them in by hand, so please be patient if you submitted something that way and don't see a score for it yet.
Finally, please remember that I will also be Auto Dropping the lowest score, as I have done the previous 3 quarters before report cards. If you are refreshing Skyward, you WILL see your grade changing as I put things in and finalize. Again, please be patient. Your final grade should be ready for view no later than this Friday, May 29th.
I hope you guys are finishing strong. I am so proud of you, all of you, for everything you have accomplished this year. Depsite all the challenges you faced you have, essentially, made it.
I will probably make one last post around June 1st for the end of the school year. Otherwise, until then, please continue to stay safe and healthy.
I love you so very much!!

Good morning everyone! Today is the first day of our two week makeup session! At this time, I have reopened ALL 12 assignments from quarter 4. If you scored less than 70%, the assignment has been reopened for you!! If you find an assignment that is NOT open, please let me know- I am only human and may have missed one!
I debated having other assignments, but decided against throwing anything else new your way. Guys, we're in the final stretch of the school year. A school year that did not go as anyone could have ever seen coming or plan for. I know you have 5 other teachers giving you work. I know some of you are working jobs of your own. I know some of you are taking care of younger siblings. I know some of you are lucky to be reading this at all because you've had trouble connecting to the internet or even getting a device that can connect in the first place. Things are HARD right now and my first priority is to look out for you. As such, there are no more assignments for the rest of this school year for my class. The 12 assignments you can see? That's it. That's all there is.
On Monday, May 25th, I will go through and check that all grades look to be accurate. I will then begin the process of grade finalization. This includes adding conduct codes, comments, and also Auto Dropping the lowest score. Then I'll double check everything again and essentially be done for the school year. It may take me longer than a day to do, of course, but that's what I have planned.
Until then, your job is to look over your assignments and make up or redo anything you see fit to get done. I can't make you do your work, but I can certainly encourage you.
Q: Mrs. Clark, I cannot connect to Skyward; I'm having troubles with Skyward; I can't complete my assignments on Skyward!
A: I got you, boo.
I have turned ALL 12 assignments into worksheet form! These have been uploaded to my teacher website on a brand new page called Alternative Assignments. There you will find 12 Word documents, each matching the online version; same questions, same multiple choices. You can save the document to your computer or device and EDIT it. You can use the highlighter tool to highlight the correct answer choice, or delete the wrong answer choices, leaving the correct one. You can save the document and email it to me. Or, you can write down the asnwers like this: 1. B, 2. A, 3. D, and so on and email that to me. However you do it, I will grade them and enter your scores manually. This will obviously take a little longer than doing the online assignments, but it's better than getting zeroes.
If you can do your work online with Skyward, PLEASE continue doing so. Do NOT submit worksheet assignments you've already done online versions of. This will be terribly confusing for my 4 brain cells, ok? Plus, it's extra work for you!
This is it. The last two weeks of Liberal Arts Math. You've got this! I love you guys!

Good morning everyone and happy Star Wars day!
Two new assignments have gone live today: 3D Area and 3D Volume. These are two of the last asssignments for the school year. There's going to be an Easy A assignment, as promised, and an optional (and completely anonymous) survey that I'll share a link to later on to help me get feedback on how I did this school year. And that's it. We're almost done!
Last week I announced that I would be reopening all quarter four assignments during the week of May 11th to May 15th. That was before I learned about the new last days of school. Due to having an extra week of Spring Break and the transition to Distance Learning, the last day for Seniors and the last day of school has been pushed back. Taking this into account, I have now decided that all quarter four assignments will be reopened on May 11th and will stay open until they close for the very last time on Friday, May 22nd. After May 22nd, there will be no open assignments. At all. I am working on a little calendar-like graphic to post here to help you visual learners. :)
I uploaded the two new PowerPoints last night but realized I'd forgotten to add audio to them. As soon as I'm done making this post, I'll record the audio and reupload the PPTs. Sorry about that!
I will also be updating other pages here on my teacher website so that they will be more accurate in terms of dates that have been announced and posted over the past week.
Please remember that if you have any questions or you need help on anything, let me know! I can't read minds so I don't know if you're struggling. Reach out!
Anyway, I love you guys, I miss you, and hang in there- we're almost to the finish line!!
4-27-20 @ 8:30 amPosted by Melissa Clark on 4/27/2020 8:30:00 AM
Four assignments were due on Friday night. Between the hours of 9 pm and 1 am (on Saturday) I received dozens of messages from students. You guys. I love you, but you cannot wait until the last minute to do your work. I post a new update here each Monday and I put out 1-2 Remind alerts a week to help. If you think I should sent out more alerts, more often, let me know. I will also be sending out a Skyward Message today, too.
Two assignments went live this morning: 3D Basics and 3D NetsCross. They each have a matching PowerPoint. These assignments are pretty easy. Like, a super nice break from the Transformations unit. Two assignments, Rotations and Dilations, are due this Friday. I'll send out Reminds about them.
I have updated the FAQ page with a lot of new info, so please take a minute or two to read over it, ok?
I know things are difficult but you still have to stay on top of things. Set alarms on your phone that repeat multiple days a week to remind yourself to work on math assignments, or history assignments, or whatever. Use Post-It notes. Use a notebook with a list of assignments due; when you complete one and submit it, cross it off the list. (It's super satisfying, trust me.) Please reach out if you need someone to talk to, or if you need help. Any kind of help. Maybe you're done with all your assignments but you're just not in a good place mentally. Reach out. Talk to someone. You're stuck at home with your family, but you feel lonlier than ever. Reach out. Talk to someone. If you're waiting on someone to talk to you, DON'T. No one can read your mind. No one knows you're waiting for them to message you. They're doing their own thing, possibly waiting on you to message them. Just reach out. Help each other. Don't let anyone slip through the cracks. We're all doing our best here in a situation we've never been in. Things aren't going to be perfect, but it's better than letting it all fall apart.
I love you guys and I miss you terribly! <3
UPDATED @ 1:30 pm
This Friday I will NOT be available for most of the day! I am taking a teacher exam in Gainesville this Friday, May 1st. This is my big math test you guys! I won't be back home until early evening, so please don't wait until the last minute to ask for help on Rotations and Dilations!
Second, (and you can thank Mr. Clark for this one) I have decided that I will reopen ALL assignments from quarter 4 for five days only next month. This will be from Monday, May 11th, to Friday, May 15th. If you have a zero or a low grade for anything, these five days will be your LAST chance before I begin working on grade finalization. Please plan and prepare accordingly!!
Finally, I will also be creating an Easy A assignment for you (if you remember the Winter Quiz, it's going to be like that). This assignment will be kind of like a survey, and will allow me to receive feedback from you guys on how I did with the online stuff, both while we were in school, and after the pandemic hit. I want to make sure that I continue to learn and grow as an educator and your feedback will help me! More details will come as we get closer to it. :)
4-20-20 @ 9:00 amPosted by Melissa Clark on 4/20/2020 9:00:00 AM
A lot has happened in the past week. On Saturday we learned that schools will be closed for the rest of the 2019-2020 school year. This is a huge blow to a lot of you who had hoped to return to campus before summer. It is even more devastating for the senior class. For those of you thinking the worst, please remember that your safety and the safety of all people is what prompted this closure. This virus is beyond your control and it is not the universe out to get you, ok? I know it may feel like it, but it's not.
I have updated the FAQs page with new information (including what I know about yearbook orders). I have also updated the PowerPoints page with the two newest PPTs for the two latest assignmnets to go live. Rotations and Dilations went live on Skyward this morning. Tomorrow, Polygon Basics and Polygon Interior will be due and once they have closed, I cannot reopen them for you. If you haven't compelted them, you will get a zero.
I was able to call many students on Friday but I did not get through my entire list. I will continue to reach out and touch base with students and please remember that you can always contact me, too!
This is a short post today. Listen, if you need someone to talk to, please do. I'm here for you. I love you guys. Be safe. Do your best. You've got this. <3
4-13-20 @ 8:20 amPosted by Melissa Clark on 4/13/2020 8:20:00 AM
Good morning everyone! We are entering our second full week of Online/Distance Learning! I've been communicating with several of you this past week and I love hearing from you guys! Today I'm going to attempt to send emails out to each and every one of you. This will be a sort of check-in email. The first two assignments are due soon (next Tuesday) and there are some students who have not even attempted to do them just yet. Students who haven't completed any assignments will get a personal phone call from me to check in! That'll be later this week, sometime between Wednesday and Friday.
Two new assignments have gone live today! Translations and Reflections! They are parts one and two of the Transformations unit! I posted the PPTs for these two assignments here on my teacher webpage yesterday. Remember that each assignment/PPT has it's own PPT/assignment. All the names match to make things less confusing. The PPTs have audio so you can hear me read them out loud (if you want; the audio doesn't play automatically so you don't have to listen if you don't want to!) to walk you through things. I know a good number of you have been getting stuck on the Polygon assignments and I am working on some back up material to help with that.
I'll be sending out a Remind alert soon, too. If you have not joined my Remind, consider doing that!
Tomorrow morning I have a meeting with other teachers and Mr. Carlisle. I've had two students message me with general questions regarding the school year; I wrote those down and will be asking about the topics at the meeting. Students, if you have questions, let me know. I will figure out who can best answer your question and either point you in their direction or ask on your behalf! And of course, ask me for help if you need it! :)
Let's go on to have a fantastic week of learning! I miss you all so much and I love you lots and lots!!
4-6-20 @ 9:45amPosted by Melissa Clark on 4/6/2020 9:45:00 AM
Did you guys have a good weekend? I did; I cleaned up my office a little bit to help streamline things. Looks a little neater now. So! I had some questions over the past week and I'll try to answer them (again) here in case more of you have similar thoughts!
First, if you get less than a 70% on an assignment, I will reopen it for you automatically- you do not have to ask me to reopen it for you! :) I check several times during school hours so if I don't get to it within a few minutes, trust me that I'll get to it very soon!
Second, if you get a 70% or above, and send me a message to reopen an assignment, I will also let you know which ones you got wrong.
Third, in the evenings and on weekends, I may not answer you as quickly, but I will answer! I promise!
Fourth, I will have approximately 2 assignments per week. I say 'approximately' because the assignment for next week (Translations) is real long and I honestly haven't decided if I'm going to make it the only assignment open next week, or if I should just extend the deadline to complete it by... But let's say 2 assignments per week for now.
Finally, I really miss you guys. I do enjoy working from home- seriously I really love it- but I miss you. I miss seeing your smiling faces every day! But I bet from your point of view, it's also nice to go through the PowerPoints at your own pace, without me having to talk over anyone else, hm? Remember that if you would like to have some one-on-one time, message me and we can schedule a Zoom conference.
Please continue to be safe as two new assignments open today: Polygon Exterior and Polygon Totals! I love you!!
4-2-20 @ 8:55 amPosted by Melissa Clark on 4/2/2020 8:55:00 AM
I hope everyone's first day of online distance learning went fairly smoothly! Hopefully you saw that assignments for my class did not much change. Many of you have already completed BOTH of the assignments for this week! If you haven't, no worries- you have 3 weeks to complete them. I've already uploaded the first PPT for next week (Polygon Exterior) and I will be uploading the second PPT for next week (Polygon Total) today. I will also start the PPTs for beyond that.
It's good to see so many of you have joined Remind! (again, thank Maleigha) I'll continue to put quick updates and reminders on there, mostly to point you back here. :) Remember, if you get less than a 70% on your assignments, I will reopen it for you automatically to give you a chance at a higher score. You don't have to message me! I will be refreshing my gradebooks periodically throughout the day to check!
Also note that as the day progresses, around the end of school hours (3ish) I may not reply as quickly or at all until the next morning. Even though I am at home, too, I am keeping to general school hours of working time to keep my sanity. Though you are always free to message me anyway and I will still absolutely schedule a Zoom conference (or other kind of conference) for after school hours if you ask!
Continue to stay on top of things for ALL of your classes and you'll do fine! I love you!! :)
4-1-20 @ 8:35 amPosted by Melissa Clark on 4/1/2020 8:35:00 AM
Good morning everyone! Two assignments are currently LIVE on Skyward right now, where they always are! They are Polygon Basics and Polygon Interior. They are matched by PowerPoints of the same name and those can be found here on my website where they always are. :)
I will be at my computer (and have my phone with me) all day long if you need to reach me with questions or concerns!
If you would like to set up a virtual meeting and have a video conference, please just let me know and I'll set one up via Zoom at an agreed upon time. Zoom is a free digital meeting application for both the desktop computer and phone! Sign up (for free) using your school email address! (These meetings would last up to 30ish minutes and can be done during school hours or after.)
Finally, if you need an assignment reopened, let me know and I'll reopen it for you so long as it is not past the due date!
My love for you is no joke! ;)
3-31-20 @ 12:25 pmPosted by Melissa Clark on 3/31/2020 12:25:00 PM
Students, I've created 4 assignments on Skyward and uploaded the first PPT at this time. The PPTs will match the assignment names so that they are easy to find and use. Please remember that PPTs with audio will be a larger file size and take a little longer to download than my previous presentations. If the audio does not work, please let me know! I am working on 3 more PPTs today to match the other 3 assignments. They will be uploaded soon.
I have finally created my own Remind account/class. You can join with the following: @LAMCM1
I will use Remind to send, well, reminders of upcoming due dates as well as announce when new assignments have gone live, along with PPTs being uploaded. You can thank Maleigha for pestering me about this. :)
Also, to prevent this page from getting too long, I have moved older posts to a brand new page. This is mostly for archival purposes. If you want to read older updates, check there. The newest update will be here on the front page!
Please, please check your other teachers' webpages, too! They will be updating them to let you know what your assignments are, where they are, how to access them, and so on. Just because you are home does not mean your education has stopped!
You may have heard by now that schools are closed until May 1st. Things are going to be ok. If, weeks from now, less people are dealing with covid-19, we will know that all these safety measures WORKED. This virus is not sentient, it does not care who you are; how old you are, what your blood type is, how in shape you may or may not be... You can get this virus. By staying home and not going to school, we (the school district) are preventing it from spreading anymore than it already has. Please continue to use caution: wash your hands often, wipe down and sanitize things you touch a lot in your home (counters, door handles/knobs, etc.). I know it may seem crazy, but it's not. Be safe! Stay healthy! I love you!!
