Sunshine State Young Readers' Award Program (SSYRA)
The Sunshine State Young Readers' Award program presents a variety of fifteen books chosen each year by a committee of Florida librarians. The fifteen books are chosen in each grade level group for their quality and appeal, and represent some of the best books in children's literature today. Students in grades 3 through 5 and 6 through 8 are encouraged to read at least three of the books so that they can participate in a statewide vote to elect their favorite SSYRA book. Students in grades K-2 will read many of the books during their library times with their class and be eligible to vote.
Every year, the author of the book with the most statewide votes is presented with the Sunshine State Young Readers' Award. See each page for a list of the titles in the grade level groups.
SSYRA Voting & Tracking
As long as you read at least 3 books from your grade level SSYRA list, you are eligible to vote in a state-wide vote to find the best book of the year from the 15 SSYRA finalists.
At FMS, we use the form below to track your progress. After you have read one of the SSYRA books, fill this out and return it to the library (or your teacher who will turn it in to Ms. Woerner). Ms. Woerner will keep track of the books you have read on the star charts hanging in the library. She will do shout outs on the announcements that play each morning with who is in the lead. At the end of the year, awards are given out to the top read in each grade level in the 3-5 category and 6-8 category.
