    Welcome Parents and Scholars!

My name is Kelly Chak and I am thrilled to have joined the talented team of 6th Grade Language Arts teachers at Liberty Middle School.  I am approaching my 15th year as an educator for the State of Florida, specifically the Marion County and Orange County Public School Districts.  In 2011, I was awarded Teacher of the Year and served 8 years as a Department of Education College Intern Mentor in conjunction with the University of Central Florida.  When I am not educating students, I enjoy spending time with my family, gardening, and raising a menagerie of pets.

Student participation and cooperation are vital to making this class a positive learning experience for us all.  I use a variety of teaching methods and assessments which allow students to confirm their understanding as they become more effective readers and writers.  Please ensure that your child is present daily, on time, prepared, and that his/her behavior is appropriate to receive instruction.  As an experienced educator I know that you want your child to become a successful adult, therefore a high level of learning is expected from Every Student, Every Day, Every Class Period!

Please utilize the Skyward family/student access as grades are updated on a weekly basis.  Homework must be turned in at the beginning of each class period with due dates assigned for the completion of a multi-day assignment.  If a student is absent, the work missed shall be provided with completion of the assignment outside of class time.  It is the student's responsibility to return the work within (1) school day for each day absent.  Late or missing assignments shall be given a due date for students to plan accordingly.

Each student MUST bring to class as soon as possible for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year:

    • 1 NEW spiral notebook
    • 1 NEW composition notebook
    • Loose leaf notebook paper
    • Red pens
    • Pencils and erasers
    • Donations are GREATLY APPRECIATED for the following general classroom supplies:  hand sanitizer, Kleenex, glue sticks, highlighters, pencils, and erasers

I very much look forward to working with each student and parent as we pursue Language Arts excellence together!

    Kind regards,

    Mrs. Chak
