Dr. Kathy Lammens
Here is where you get to learn a little about me. I am a native of Long Island, NY where I grew up and went to college. I moved to Gainesville, Florida for graduate school at the University of Florida, and after moving around for two years, I landed back in the sunshine state! I have been living in Ocala for seven years with my husband, four children, three cats, and dog. I have always been interested in education. I took several education courses as an undergraduate but ultimately decided to go into academia and pursue a doctoral degree in philosophy.
After earning my Ph.D., I became a visiting assistant professor at James Madison University. At the time, I had two very young children and decided that I wanted to spend more time with them. So I left academia and taught part time until my third child was born. It was then that I decided I would homeschool my children. For ten years, we were a homeschooling family. Last year we all decided it was time for a change. All four of my children are in public school here in Ocala. My two oldest children are in high school, one attends Osceola, and my youngest is in elementary school. This is my second year at Osceola Middle School, and I am grateful to to be a part of this vibrant community of students, faculty, and staff.
After school hours, my favorite thing to do is attend my children’s sporting events. All four of them are runners, and my youngest is also a gymnast. My second favorite thing to do is to run! I often run while they are at their practices, and my kids tease me that I think I’m on the team (aren’t I, though?). I also love to kayak, read and snuggle with my children—even the big ones. My favorite place to be is at the beach--any beach!
