Mrs. Folkers

Hello everyone and welcome to the new 2019-2020 school year at Forest High School!

My name is Mrs. Folkers and I will be teaching General Chemistry and Honors Chemistry.   I've attached my syllabus to this website; you can also request a paper copy from me.

A little background:  my husband and I moved here last year from New England.  I have attended the University of Rhode Island and have a degree in Chemistry, with a Math minor.  Chemistry is a fascinating and interactive subject and I guarantee you will enjoy my class.    I ask that all students show up on time, pay attention and above all else:  ASK, ASK, ASK if you don't understand something.  Our new school hours are 7:35 to 3:20 pm each day.  I am available before school any day of the week if a student needs extra help or just needs to talk to me.  In addition, I am happy to stay after school to assist with extra tutoring; just give a few days notice.

My chemistry classes will be a mixture of lectures, labs, classroom projects and group learning.   Please note that every student and parent/guardian must sign both the Syllabus and the Flinn Safety Contract regarding policies and procedures when working in the laboratory.   Failure to return the Flinn Safety contract will prohibit the student form participating in any labs, so please get these returned to me as soon as possible.

Many people associate Chemistry with fear and dread;  it is my sincere pledge to you that I will make the content of my classes exciting, applicable to everyday life and enriching for the student.  Every single person has the ability and potential to succeed, no matter what their background or preparation   Do NOT be afraid to give me feedback or let me know how you feel the class is going; I welcome input from students at any time.

Let's have a FANTASTIC YEAR!!

My best,

Mrs. Folkers
