Choose the same letters that you child practiced on Wednesday. Get a small baking tray or cookie sheet. Lightly cover the bottom with “Stardust” ( This can be glitter if you are brave, sugar, salt, flour, etc). Have your child say the letter names as he practices writing these letters in the stardust with their finger, a Q-Tip or even a paint brush.

Today lets do some measuring. Draw a star on a piece of paper and cut it out. Now lets use it to measure. How many stars tall are you? How many stars tall are the other members of your family? What else can you measure with your star?

Optional:

What do you have around the house that you could use to build a rocket ship? Tin cans? Cardboard boxes? Plastic bottle with colored paper and tin foil? Will it be small so you can hold it or large so you can sit in it? There are so many ways to be creative! Don’t forget to send your teacher a picture of your creation!

After watching this tell your child that today they get to be a doctor or nurse. Today they must take care of sick patients (favorite doll or stuffed animal) that are not feeling well. Ask your child to think about the following questions: How do you know your patient isn’t feeling well? What can you do as their doctor/nurse to help them feel better? How long will it take to help them feel better? Will they need any medicine? Dramatic play is a huge part of social emotional learning.

Once you are done playing doctor look around the house to help your child find items that have the same beginning sound as the words Doctor /d/ and Nurse /n/.

# Friday, May 8th Lesson

After watching the read aloud watch the video D Song
Once a word is revealed have them copy that word.

It's Friday! Let's let the children do some messy/sensory play. Here are some at home ideas you could do:

Finger Paiting- take it outside and let the kids paint something using their hands! They love it.

Shaving Cream- Put it on any table like service and have them draw or practice writing with their finger. It wipes right off surfaces and does not stain.

Colored Shaving Cream- Add a few drops of paint or food coloring to the shaving cream.

Cloud DoughThis stuff is perfect for all kinds of play.  Make a batch by using 1 part baby oil/vegetable oil to 8 parts flour.  Then throw in your child’s cars and trucks, or a scoop and bowl, or even pretend baking supplies!

Playdough Recipe
This recipe requires just three ingredients. It creates a rubbery playdough that kids will enjoy playing with and it keeps its shape well. You can give it color by simply adding a little food coloring if you like.

• 2 cups baking soda
• 1 1/2 cups water
• 1 cup cornstarch

Mix the ingredients with a fork until smooth. Boil over medium heat until thick. Spoon onto a plate or wax paper and allow it to cool.

If you do not have any of these materials at home that is just fine! I just wanted to give some creative ideas for how children can play! If you do not have any of those materials include your child in chores around the house. Let them help do the dishes, fold laundry, spray counter tops, hand wash clothes or wash their toys wih soap and water. Although it may not be productive and you will have to help them it is a good way to teach your children to be responsible as well as building their confidence. Keep a postive and calm attitude when they are trying to help! I would LOVE to see some pictures of their sensory play or them helping around the house!
