Service Projects

DUE TO COVID-19 PLEASE DO NOT ALLOW STUDENTS TO WORK OUTSIDE IN THE COMMUNITY ON THEIR SERVICE PROJECTS. Thank you.

In light of the current COVID-19 crisis, the faculty council at NHJ for the National Elementary Honor Society will be waiving the service project requirement for 4th and 5th grade NEHS members. Students in Mrs. Mickel or Mrs. Hubner’s classes should speak to them about their expectations, since theirs was an actual assignment for class. If a student has already completed their project, they are welcome to share it with me via email: Jessica.larroque@marion.k12.fl.us and I will share any pictures to our NEHS website. Due to the recent orders by the state government, we will not be participating in the March of Dimes walk. You can still support our team by a monetary donation, if you so choose. Information can be found here: https://www.marchforbabies.org/Fundraising/Team/?TeamEventId=2923941. Please feel free to contact me with any other questions and concerns. Stay safe.

Students in Mrs. Hubner & Mrs. Mickel's classes: Your classroom project counts as a service project and you are exempt from the Service Packet. Please see below:

The fourth graders in Hubner and Mickel's homeroom are working on their social action/community service projects. Several of them are seeking donations of goods for various charitable organizations. A few have asked if they can "adopt" a class here at Jones to help them with donations. It is the student's responsibility to coordinate this. I just wanted you to know that we are working on this from now until the beginning of April.

This is a great project for getting the kids to look outside of themselves and practice kindness. They have to keep a log of their time spent, make a media presentation of the project for our class, and write a reflection essay. It is academic, but it is so much more than that.

Thank you in advance for your help!
