STEP 1 - Know your Zone school - 8th grade students in Marion County are assigned a "zone" school. For Horizon Academy students that live in Marion Oaks that would be either Westport High School (for those who live on the north side of County Road 484) or Dunnellon High School.
STEP 2 - APPLY FOR A MAGNET PROGRAM
However, students can choose a different high school (or stay in their zone school but be a part of the special program) if they are accepted into a Magnet Program at that school. Below is information about those schools and their Magnet Programs based on their website information. To learn more about special careers in Marion County see the Center for Career and Technical Education.
The deadline for applying to a Magnet Program/School is Jan.31. For more info on applying go here.
Career Choice - APPLICATION PERIOD FOR 2020-21 SCHOOL YEAR*- Five Career Choice Academies options are being offered for the 2020-2021 school year. All programs are available to students in grades 9-12.
- Nine programs are being offered at MTI for the 2020-2021 school year. Programs, with exceptions, are available to students in grades 9-12.

Marion Technical Institute
A second alternative is for students to attend their zone school in the morning and then go to Marion Technical Institute
for classes in special certifications/skills in the afternoon. Here is information about this option:
