8th grade students in Marion County are assigned a "zone" school. For Horizon Academy students that live in Marion Oaks that would be either Westport High School (for those who live on the north side of County Road 484) or Dunnellon High School (Students who were formerly from Lake Weir Middle would attend Lake Weir High School).
However, students can choose a different high school (or stay in their zone school but be a part of the special program) if they are accepted into a Magnet Program at that school. Below is information about those schools and their Magnet Programs based on their website information. In addition, there will be a Magnet Expo at the College of Central Florida on Thurs., Jan. 11. To learn more about special careers in Marion County see the Center for Career and Technical Education. The deadline for applying to a Magnet Program/School is Feb.28.
