A Career Pathway is a sequence of CTE courses designed to help a student explore and prepare for a specific career area or group of related occupations. Career academic sequences are recommended for all students regardless of postsecondary intentions and includes progressive exposure to the world of work.

Each Program of Study is identified by a specific Career Cluster. Each outlines a suggested sequence of courses along with the articulated credits available and the post-secondary courses included in the degree program.

As defined by Perkins IV grant, a Career Pathway Program of Study identifies options for students to use when planning course work and other education activities that lead to a career. A program of study specifies secondary and post secondary courses, includes academic and Career & Technical Education (CTE) content in a coordinated, non-duplicative progression of courses, dual-enrollment opportunities, and industry-recognized credentials, an associate or baccalaureate degree goals. Just as in Tech Prep, students can earn college credit by taking a CTE Program of Study and entering the post-secondary institution included in the articulated program.

Marion County supports over 35 Career Pathway Programs of Study that articulate with College of Central Florida, Hillsborough Community College, Lake Sumter State College, Indian River State College, Marion Technical College (MTC), Santa Fe College and Valencia College. New articulations are being developed each year to address students’ desires and workforce needs.
