5th Grade Concepts

  • In 5th grade, we continue adding onto our musical repertoire, with rich vocabulary, complex rhythms, intricate melodies, etc.

    - We begin exploring Harmony, which is when a combination of notes is played at the same time to produce a chord. We will produce harmony with our classroom instruments and our voices with Canon.
    - Canon is when 2 or more groups say the same thing but start at different times
    - Adding the final note: Ti to the solfege ladder
    - Meter (Simple and Compound)
    - Time Signature (6/8)
    - COnducting Patterns (2/4, 3/4, 4/4)
    - Rhythms (Triplets and dotted quarter notes)
    - Syncopation
    - Tempo
    - Dynamics
    - Form (Binary AB Ternary ABA Rondo ABACA, Theme and Variations)
    - Intervals (Whole and Half Step)
    - Timbre (Instrument Families)
