4th Grade Concepts

  • In 4th grade, we simply add onto what we were doing in 3rd grade, but add more difficult rhythms, melodies, etc.

    - We continue with recorder, adding more challenging pieces
    - We begin exploring different music from different countries and how they relate to American music
    - Adding onto solfege ladder (REview Low Do, Re, Mi, Sol, La, High Do, Add new note: Fa)
    - Time Signature (2/4, 3/4, 4/4)
    - Conducting Patterns (2/4, 3/4, 4/4)
    - Adding rhythms (barred sixteenth notes with eighth notes, syncopated notes)
    - Syncopation
    - Tempo
    - Dynamics (Pianissimo, Piano, Mezzo Piano, Mezzo Forte, Forte, Fortissimo, Crescendo, Decrescendo)
    - Melody (Do Pentatonic and La Pentatonic)
    - Review how to read the 5-line staff
    - Music Symbols
    - Intervals (Steps, Skips, Leaps, Repeats, Octave)
    - Timbre (Classifying by instrument families)
    - Voice Types (Soprano, Alto, Bass, Tenor)
    - Texture (Thin/Thick)
