3rd Grade Concepts

  • In 3rd Grade, concepts begin to get much more complicated and precise. The students officially begin learning how to read notes on the 5-line staff and learning the core of the music language, including lots of new music vocabulary, along with:

    - Adding recorder to our reading skills
    - Identifying time signatures (2/4, 3/4, 4/4)
    - Adding new rhythms (Whole Note, Whole Rest, Sixteenth notes, Dotted Half Note)
    - Tempo (Accelerando and Decelerando)
    - Dynamics (Review from last year)
    - Form (Binary AB, Ternary ABA, Rondo ABACA)
    - Adding to solfege ladder (Review sol, mi, la, low do and re, add new note: High Do)
    - Melody (Pentatonic)
    - Music symbols
    - Intervals (Steps, Skips, Leaps, and Repeats)
    - Timbre (Instrument families, orchestra, choir, child, adult voices)
    - Listening Reflections
