• ELA NEWS:

     

    AR will be up and running, (hopefully soon)! Please make sure your child is reading for a MINIMUM of 20 minutes a night. We have a reading goal of 1,000,000 words read for the year and expect everyone to achieve it since everyone is able to read at his/her reading level! Students are also expected to keep a nightly Reading Log documenting and reflecting on they read! :0)

     

    1st nine weeks' goal: 250,000 words read

    2nd nine weeks' goal: 500,000 words read

    3rd nine weeks' goal: 750,000 words read

    4th nine weeks' goal: 1,000,000 words read

     

    Words read DO roll over to the next nine weeks! I encourage my children to find something they love and go for it! I will let you know when AR is up and running, but students should be reading NOW! Starting this week, students will be expected to keep a reading log!     We have been working on Personal Narratives through our stories and writing. We have also been working on strong verbs and adjectives, personification, and using dialogue in our writing.

         Focus Skills:

    LAFS.5.RL.1.2- Determine a theme of a story, drama, or poem from details in the text, including how characters in a story or drama respond to challenges or how the speaker in a poem reflects upon a topic; summarize the text.
