    By the end of the year you should be able to do the following:

    • Synthesize information from multiple sources
    • Form an opinion and defend against opposing ideas
    • Write for a variety of purposes

    Literature covered but not limited to the following:

    • The Land
    • Night
    • Romeo and Juliet
    • “I Have a Dream”
    • “The Quilt of a Country”
    • Assorted poetry/short stories/nonfiction


    • Something to write with (blue/black pen or pencil)
    • Something to write on
    • 2 folders (one for class and one for home)
    • Highlighters (multiple colors, at least 3)
    • Post-it Notes

    A = 90-100

    B = 80-89

    C = 70-79

    D = 60-69

    F = 59 or lower


    Grading Breakdown:

    Tests/Projects/Essays: 40%

    Classwork/Quizzes: 50%

    Homework: 10%

    You will have a writing conference due that needs to take place EACH 9 weeks. This will count as a TEST grade. Pick a piece of your writing and set a time to talk to me about it. This can happen before/after school as well as during CAT. Do not wait until the last minute. 


    I do not accept late work.

    Check my website if you’re absent. All make up work for excused absences should be completed within 3 days per the student handbook. This includes making arrangements for tests.
