Ms. Debra McCord

My earliest memory involves tracing the shadows on the wall with my finger. I was always fascinated by shape, light, color, the changing clouds above me and transparent rain puddles at my feet. I think I was born an artist and there never was any doubt that art would be a huge part of my life.

I attended The School of Visual Arts in NYC on a full scholarship for painting.  Eventually, my love for design led me to a career as a Graphic Designer working at such companies as Liz Claiborne, Arista Records and Bernard Chaus in New York City. Painting is still my true love and I continue to do this both personally and professionally.

I became a teacher simply to share my love of art with my students. While I thought I could inspire them, what I've found is that they inspire me...each day they teach me something new and to me that's always exciting. I enjoy their unfiltered, honest, and often hilarious observations about life, art and what it's like being a kid in the twenty-first century.

Now, after many years of travelling between New York, California and Florida I have decided to finally settle down. Since Maui was not an option, I am planting some roots in Ocala to be closer to my family. I'm a brand new homeowner of a beautiful mid-century bungalow on a tree lined street close to downtown. My favorite room is the sun filled back room that I use as my studio. Our little bungalow is the perfect spot for me and my favorite traveling companion and wise old little dog, Zoey.
