    Summer Reading Note-taking Guide

The best way to remember what happened in a book is to take notes as you read. Every book is unique, so the way you take notes will probably vary from one book that you read to another. Your goal should be to write down the most important details as they apply to the particular book you are reading.

Remember…you are taking notes. You do not have to rewrite the book! Please find information below that may be used as a guide for what is important to consider when you take notes.

    Book title:

    1. List the characters/people in the book.
    2. Identify their relationship to the other characters/people (brother, friend, neighbor, teacher, etc.).
    3. Identify personality traits (brave, foolish, kind, etc.) for each character/person.
    4. List the major events or actions associated with each character/person.
    5. List the main ideas and themes in the story.
    6. List conflicts or problems between the characters/people.
    7. Summarize how these conflicts or problems are solved.
