This page will answer questions commonly asked by students and parents.

I am unhappy with the grade my student received on an assignment. What can I do about that?

Students may re-submit an assignment much in the way they would submit an assignment late. There is a ten point penalty, and they have until one week from the end of the marking period to do so.

My student was absent today. How can I get their work?

It's all right here on my website. A list of current and past due assignments are provided. It's not as good as being here and taking your own notes. Students without internet access can request a printout, which they will be given within 24 hours.

    What is your cheating policy?

Zero tolerance. I take the testing environment seriously. I don't have the wisdom to tell cheating from conversation, and fortunately, I don't have to - no talking of any kind is permitted during testing. Any student who turns around in his/her chair or makes a sound, gesture, or eye contact with another student is presumed to be cheating and will be given a zero (or the lowest possible score) for the exam and/or a detention, depending on the circumstances. Similarly, a student with an answer that is suspiciously similar to the wrong answer of an adjacent student will be given a zero and/or a detention, depending on the circumstances. Be silent and keep your eyes on your own paper during exams, and you won't have any problems.

    Do you assign homework?

Yes, and don't let your student tell you otherwise. It is on a class by class basis.

    Do you accept late work?

Yes! There is a 10 point penalty for late work up tp 5 days late, after that it becomes a 0. This beats a grade of "F" for failing to turn in anything.

Your grade book says I didn't turn in my assignment, but I did! I really did!

Did you put your name on it? I am a teacher, not a forensic handwriting analyst. Assignments with no name will be kept in a pile near the proper turn-in place in the classroom in hopes of being claimed for proper credit. If you care about your assignments, put your name on it.

How can we access our textbooks online?

The online textbook version of the Earth Space Science textbook does not work. Your child has been assigned a textbook to keep at home for use throughout the school year.

What does PROBLEM WORKING INDEPENDENTLY mean on my studet's report card?

This is a catch-all that means your student has failed to complete a task that was to be performed outside of the classroom, with no direct supervision. Or it may mean that they have difficulty staying on task in class or general refusal to cooperate with classwork assignments.

My student received an academic referral for missing work. Which assignments are missing?

Check the parent portal, or have your student check the student portal. Any assignment with a grade of "0" or less is missing, and must be made up.

What does MISSING ASSIGNMENT mean on my student's report card?

This means that your student failed to turn in a home work or class work assignment that was graded. It could mean that your student was absent for an assignment and did not come in power hour to make it up.

Can I send you an assignment by email? My printer broke/ran out of ink/doesn't exist.

Yes, it must be submitted on time to receive credit.
