What is your policy for late work?
Posted by:There is a 10 point penalty for late work. On some assignments, this penalty is 10 points per day. This certainly beats a grade of "0" for failing to turn in anything. Students who have not been absent will have one week to turn in late work. Students who have been absent are granted extensions equal to their number of days missed.

I am unhappy with the grade I received on an assignment. What can I do about that?
Posted by:Come see me during office hours (M_F, 8:50-9:10). Most assignments, tests, and quizzes can be done over to allow students an opportunity to demonstrate proficiency. Students have one week to re-do an assignment, at a cost of ten points. If an alternate assessment is not available at present time, provisions will be made to provide one in a timely fashion. If you are willing to put in the time and effort, you can improve your grade.

Your grade book says I didn't turn in my homework, but I did! I really did!
Posted by:Did you put your name on it? I am a teacher, not a forensic handwriting analyst. Work with no name goes into the bin for the remainder of the quarter, in the hope that it will be identified by its creator. After that, it's trash. If you care about your work, put your name on it.

What is your cheating policy?
Posted by:Zero Tolerance. I take the testing environment very seriously. I don't have the wisdom to tell cheating from conversation, and, fortunately, I don't have to - no communication of any kind is allowed during testing. Any student who turns around in his/her chair, makes a sound, gesture, or eye contact with another student will be presumed to be cheating and receive a score of zero. Keep your eyes on your own paper, take your exam quietly, and you won't have any problems.

What is a "writing grade"?
Posted by:Students are expected to write quietly at the beginning of each class, as well as at various times throughout the class. They will receive a grade for the effort they put into this activity. Students who are off-task or refuse to do their work will be penalized with a low grade for this assignment, which is usually graded on a weekly basis.

What is a "participation grade"?
Posted by:Students are expected to engage in class activities over the course of a week, and will receive a relatively easy grade for doing so. Students who are frequently absent may miss an opportunity to do so. Students who actively refuse to answer questions or participate in activities will receive a low or failing grade for participation.
