Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Denise Distel
My name is Ms. Denise Distel. I am a Reading Teacher at Lake Weir Middle School for grades 6, 7, and 8. Our School is located in the Marion County Public School District.
I am from New York State and recently moved to Florida. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in History and Elementary Education (N-6) from the State University of New York at New Paltz and a Master of Science Degree in Reading Education (K-12) from the City University of New York at Queens College. I graduated with top honors and was inducted into the National Honor Society, Kappa Delta Pi. I have been teaching for about 20 years and have taught all grades from Kindergarten through High School as well as adults as a Literacy Volunteer of America.
I enjoy so many hobbies and activities, it is hard to decide what I like the most. I love music and play the flute and piano and do my best singing in the car on my ride to school each morning! I enjoy cooking, sewing, quilting, gardening, sports; especially swimming, tennis, and golf, and of course reading! I have two adorable and lovable pets: Molly, my Scottie and Millie, my Cat who we adopted from a shelter in New York. She and Molly love to be on the lanai together watching out for birds, squirrels, and geckos!
I love to teach and enjoy making a difference. I value your child and am so glad to be part of the Lake Weir Middle School family!
