Ms. Jennifer O'Hara

Welcome! My name is Ms. O'Hara and this is my second year teaching Biology and AICE Marine Science here at North Marion High School.

I grew up in the San Fernando Valley in Southern California (I was a "Valley Girl") and went to Grant High School in Van Nuys, CA. As a child, I spent a lot of time at the beach and my bond with the ocean occurred at a very young age. At the age of 17, I became a certified PADI SCUBA diver and have since been fortunate enough to study and dive the world ocean at locations such as Hawaii, Mexico, Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, Florida and California.

In college, I majored in marine biology and criminal justice. I first received my Associate of Arts degree in Biology with focus on marine biology at Los Angeles Pierce College. I moved up to Northern California and attended UC Santa Cruz and San Francisco State to continue that journey. I wound up getting my Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Forensic Science from Lindenwood University in St Charles, Missouri and then went on to complete my Master of Arts in Teaching Science at Western Governors University. I am certified to teach in Florida, Missouri and California. I have lived in all of those states and I was also fortunate to spend 4 years of my life on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. Hawaii is where I learned to surf and live simply. I love traveling to new places to learn about different cultures, people, food and walks of life.

Before I became a high school teacher, I was a financial advisor, USPA Accelerated Freefall Instructor, Senior Rigger, lifeguard and swim instructor. SCUBA and skydiving would prove to be my two favorite hobbies. I love teaching whether it be skydiving, swimming, biology or marine biology. My other passion from high school was Speech and Debate and I also have three years of experience teaching elementary and jr. high students speech, debate and mock trial.

I am the mother of a wonderful 17 year old daughter named Dakota. Her father passed away in 2003 so I have essentially raised her by myself and am very proud of the young lady she has become. Besides traveling, SCUBA and skydiving, my hobbies include surfing, skiing, gardening and cooking.
