Mr. Euan Hunter
I am honored to be a chemistry teacher here at Vanguard High School because of the amazing students that I get to work with. It has been quite a journey to get here though!
After graduating with my degree in chemistry at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, I went on to study to be a chemistry teacher at a university in England. This lead me to my first teaching job at a high school in Preston, in north west England. I taught chemistry and general science there for two years before returning home to teach in Scotland. There, I predominantly taught at a large urban high school where I became Principal Teacher of Chemistry and Science for 10 years. During this time, I was also an advisor to the local county on curriculum and assessment and also to the Scottish Government. In this last role I was able to help create the new chemistry qualifications for the whole of Scotland. I then left Scotland as my wife got a job in New York City, and I was able to teach science at a charter middle school in Brooklyn, New York before moving here to Ocala.
I love teaching chemistry. I have been fortunate to teach chemistry to many different age groups, in many different locations, to many different curricula. I try and utilize that experience to make the learning of chemistry as real, enjoyable and successful as I can. I believe in life-long learning; and so every year I look forward to what new students will bring to the classroom and allow me to develop into a better teacher.
