Degrees and Certifications:
B.A. in Journalism M.S. in Mass Communication Fla. Certifications: English/Journalism 6-12 2018 LWHS Rookie Teacher of the Year
I am excited to be your Pre-IB English 1, Journalism, or Leadership teacher this year! This is my fourth year at Lake Weir High and my fifth with Marion County Public Schools. I come to LWHS with a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Marshall University and a master’s in mass communication from the University of Southern Mississippi. I have previously worked in radio production and newspaper reporting, as well as interned for Sydney Educational Radio (2SER) in Sydney, Australia. I am originally from Marlinton, West Virginia, a small rural community nestled in the Appalachian Mountains. I moved to Florida in 2015 to begin my career, as well as enjoy all the beaches this state has to offer!
I am looking forward to a great 2019/2020 school year. In my Pre-IB English 1 class, we will be studying many different genres of work including novels, plays, poetry, and short stories. In addition, we will be learning vocabulary, grammar, and writing concepts. In Journalism, we will work collectively to produce a 200-page yearbook, as well as learn about the role of the press in modern society. In Leadership, we will learn the characteristics/qualities of a leader, as well as work closely with our administrative team to plan Homecoming and other school-related functions. It is my hope that you come to school every day focused and ready to be challenged. I will be in my classroom before the school day begins (8:15 a.m. – 9:05 a.m.). If you would like to meet with me after school, please email me in advance to schedule a time and day. I do assist with extracurricular activities so the morning would be the best time. If ever you have a question or concern, please do not hesitate to contact me. You may reach me via phone at 352-671-4820 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
