Welcome to Eighth Street! We are looking forward to our year together. We hope the following information will be useful. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at 671-7125.
School Hours: The school day for students is 8:15 a.m. - 2:35 p.m. A teacher is on duty from 7:55 a.m. - 8:15 a.m. to supervise early arrivals. Students are expected to wait outside in their respective grade level lines until the bell rings at 8:05 a.m. The tardy bell rings at 8:15 a.m. In case of rain or extreme cold, the students will wait in the cafeteria.
Dismissal Procedures: Kindergarten dismissal is at 2:25 p.m. Small pink cards must be shown if you walk up to get your child. Large green cards need to be placed in the front, right window of your vehicle while in carline.
Lunch: Breakfast & lunch are served each day, free of charge. Breakfast begins at 7:55 a.m. If you plan to eat lunch with your child, please arrive a few minutes early so you can sign in & meet your child in the Eagle's Roost. Your child must stay seated with you in the Eagle's Roost during lunch. Our class lunch time is 12:18 - 12:48.
Snack: We will eat a mid-morning snack every day. You can either send a snack each day, or send in a week's worth of snack in a ziploc bag. We are a peanut free classroom. Please check the label of every snack you send with your child. If it contains peanuts, or was made in a facility that processes peanuts, it will not be allowed in the classroom.
After School Care: If your child attends our extended day program or goes to a daycare on a part time basis, please put the information in writing for us.
Sickness: Please keep your child home when they are sick. When returning to school after an absence, please send in a note explaining their absence. All medicine MUST be taken to the office and must have a prescription label. We cannot administer cough drops, Tylenol, etc.
Teacher Hours: Teachers’ hours are from 7:45 a.m -3:30 p.m. We believe that constant communication between parents and teachers eliminates most misunderstandings and helps us to plan the most effective strategies for your child. If you would like a conference, please set up a time in advance, so we can gather materials that will assist in our discussion.
Clothes and Shoes: Tennis shoes are the best footwear for students. Please make sure all clothing and shoes are comfortable. Remember to label (child’s name with a permanent marker) all sweaters, jackets and lunchboxes. Your child will not be able to participate in P.E. without tennis shoes.
Correspondence: Please place all notes and money sent to school in an envelope, labeled with the teacher’s name and student’s name on the front. Also, include a written explanation of what is inside the envelope (field trip permission, picture order, etc.). Please put the envelope in your child’s folder.
Birthdays: Birthdays are a special day for your child. If you would like to provide a peanut-free snack/treat for the class, your child may bring it in the morning. In order to send birthday invitations from school, you must provide one for every child in the class.
Leaving School: All students must be signed out in the front office, before leaving campus. If your child plans to go home with a classmate, we must have a note, in advance, giving permission to do so.
Parents on Campus: Whenever you are on campus, you must go to the front office to sign in and get a visitor’s pass, before going to your child’s classroom. This helps ensure the safety of every child.
WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO A GREAT SCHOOL YEAR!
