Updated 7/30/17: Happy 2017-2018 school year! I am excited to meet my students and get started on our journey.

    REQUIRED COURSE SUPPLIES (English II)

    • Spiral notebook. I strongly suggest the 5 Star 5-subject notebooks- we will be using the notebook in sections and the 5 subject will assist with division.
    • Folder with prongs for returned assignments and course handouts
    • Package of pens/pencils

Course readings will be taken from the provided textbook. Please consider "going green" and accessing the textbook online via student portal. You need not bring textbooks to class.

We will be reading three novels/plays this year: Tomorrow, When the War Began, by James Marsden, Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, and a TBA novel in the spring. There will be in-class copies provided; however, students may wish to purchase their own copy for notetaking/make-up reading purposes. I suggest purchasing Sparknote's "No Fear Shakespeare" Macbeth, or accessing the text online.

This year, our focus is evidence-based writing and close reading. We will be using Kelly Gallagher's "Article of the Week" extensively. We will also be developing "Writer's Notebooks" to help students organize their notes and keep track of their writing growth throughout the year.

  • We will be thoroughly engaged in the writing porcess throughout the year. Our Writing Notebooks will serve as a place for Bellringers, class notes, vocabulary, textual evidence, and writing assignments. Writing is a marathon, not a sprint, and it is important to stay organized with strong foundational skills, practice, and evidence of growth over time.

I strongly reccommend that you purchase a 5 Star brand 5-subject notebook for this course. These are less than $5 at Wal-Mart and should last most, if not all, of the school year. This will make sectioning your notebook easier.
