Chapter 1 – The Poisson Distribution
When students have completed this lesson they should be able to:
- Calculate probabilities for the Poisson Distribution
- Understand the relevance of the Poisson Distribution to the distribution of random events and use the Poisson Distribution as a model
- Use the result that the mean and variance of the Poisson Distribution are equal
- Use the Poisson Distribution as an approximation to the binomial distribution where appropriate
- Use the Normal distribution, with a continuity correction, as an approximation to the Poisson Distribution where appropriate
