Ms. Shim

Hello everyone! My name is Ms. Shim and I am a 6th grade World History Teacher at North Marion Middle School. This is my 3rd year teaching history. I'm a first generation student (the first in my family to attend and graduate from college). I graduated from the University of Florida in May of 2015 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Political Science and Chinese Literature and Language with focuses in International Relations, International Development and Humanitarian Aid. GO GATORS!!! While at UF, I studied abroad twice and interned for the European Union Cooperation for Rural Development (EUCORD) as the Communications Intern. My job was to research areas in Africa that are able to grow crops that can withstand Africa's harshly dry climates. I researched joint endeavors for the E.U. and EUCORD and China to develop areas in Africa. Additionally, I researched the China-Africa Development Fund (CADF) and how to establish joint endeavors with EUCORD. I also wrote grant proposals to the EU for development efforts in Tanzania. I am very proud to say that because of my research EUCORD is working with CADF fund to develop rural Africa. I lived in China, which is where I earned my A.S. in Chinese Literature and Language at Tsinghua University, the top university in China. I also lived in Brussels, Belgium, where I earned an A.S. in European Union Studies at Vesalius College, the English college of Vrije Universiteit Brussel. I am currently working on my Masters of Professional Studies in Homeland Security at Pennsylvania State University with an expected graduation date of May 2017. GO LIONS!!!!

Fun facts: I speak and write fluent Mandarin, understand Latin and can speak very little French. I am currently learning Arabic.

I am looking forward to this school year. GO COLTS!!!
