Instructional employees earn one day of sick leave per month of employment. Employees are credited with up to four (4) days of sick leave on their first day of employment each school year. Thereafter, they earn one day of sick leave at the end of each month until they have earned the maximum number of hours. (Example: A ten-month teacher earns 77.5 hours of sick leave per school year).

All other employees earn one (1) day of sick leave per month of employment. Employees are credited with up to four (4) days of advanced sick leave at the end of their first month of employment each school year. Thereafter, they earn one day of sick leave at the end of the month until they have earned the maximum number of hours. (Example: A nine month teacher assistant who works six hours per day would have a maximum of 54 hours).

Each school year a maximum of six (6) days earned may be used for personal reasons.

See your union contract or contact the Payroll Department to inquire about terminal sick leave benefits. Please note: No terminal leave benefits are paid on hours transferred into Marion County for employees hired as of 7/1/1984.
