Media Center Mission
The mission of the North Marion Middle School library is to: encourage independent reading to create lifelong readers; foster creative thinking through collaborative instruction; guide both students and staff to become skillful researchers and ethical users of information; prepare students to be productive citizens; and provide equitable access to all forms of information.
The Media Center at North Marion Middle School is designed to meet the needs of both students and faculty by providing a wide variety of materials to supplement the curriculum. These materials are available for students, faculty, staff, and parents to use. The media center is designed to provide a quiet, friendly atmosphere in which patrons can access materials in a variety of formats appropriate to all interests and viewpoints. Our goal is to promote reading and provide access to information, and ensure that our students acquire the 21st Century skills necessary to succeed in our global society.
Each student may check out FOUR (4) items at a time.
Parents may check out FIVE (5) items at a time.
Library materials are checked out to parents and students for two weeks and may be renewed twice, if necessary. Patrons may not check out additional library materials from the regular library collection until overdue materials are returned. All materials checked out of the library media center are the responsibility of the patron. Lost or damaged materials must be paid for in full before additional materials may be borrowed. A book is considered lost only if it is overdue for a minimum of two weeks. Refunds will be given if a lost book is found and returned to the media center in good condition.
Read Box books are always available for students who have an overdue book so that everyone has a chance at taking a book from the Media Center.
All library materials must be returned to the media center at the end of every school year, before summer reading materials can be checked out.
Gifts are always appreciated. All gifts will be evaluated by the library media specialist and placed in the appropriate collection. Gifts may be added to the Media Center collection, given to teachers for classroom libraries, given to a neighboring elementary or high school library, or donated to the public library.
There are ongoing and changing events and contests in the Media Center. Check out the main page and the calendar to keep in the know on what is going on in the Media Center!
