MARION COUNTY CENTER FOR THE ARTS DANCE PROGRAM
The MCCA dance program offers instruction in ballet, modern, jazz, tap, and hip hop for students at a basic, intermediate, and advanced level. Students are enrolled in a dance course during the school day and may also be invited to participate in a rehearsal period that meets after school several days per week.
Afterschool rehearsals are scheduled around students' outside commitments as best as possible. Students perform in a winter and spring dance concert and may also be invited to perform in various events throughout the community.
MCCA DANCE AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
STUDENTS MUST APPLY FOR MCCA AND RECEIVE THEIR ACADEMIC ACCEPTANCE LETTER PRIOR TO AUDITIONING FOR PLACEMENT. STUDENTS SHOULD ARRIVE AT THE DANCE AUDITION ON TIME, DRESSED APPROPRIATELY, AND WITH A 1 MINUTE 30 SECOND SOLO ALREADY PREPARED. IT IS PREFERRED THAT STUDENTS WEAR A LEOTARD AND TIGHTS, BUT TIGHT, FLEXIBLE CLOTHING (SUCH AS YOGA PANTS AND A TANK TOP) IS ACCEPTABLE. PLEASE DO NOT WEAR RESTRICTIVE CLOTHING SUCH AS JEANS OR BAGGY CLOTHING.
STUDENTS WILL REHEARSE A DANCE COMBINATION UPON ARRIVAL AT THE AUDITION. AFTER REHEARSAL THE STUDENTS WILL PERFORM THE PIECE SO THAT THE INSTRUCTOR CAN DETERMINE THE DANCE CLASS THAT WILL BE MOST BENEFICIAL FOR THE STUDENT. EACH STUDENT WILL ALSO PERFORM HIS OR HER SOLO. THE STUDENT'S SOLO MAY BE ANY DANCE GENRE, AND THE STUDENT SHOULD BRING A COPY OF THE MUSIC FOR THE SOLO ON A CD.
