• The Agricultural Science Education Program is built on the three core areas: Classroom/Laboratory Instruction, Supervised Agriculture Experience programs (SAE’s) and FFA student organization activities/opportunities i.e. Career Development Events (CDE’s), Leadership Development Events (LDE’s) and socials.  Together these three components provide students with real life and relevant learning experiences as well as personal growth opportunities.


    Classroom instruction uses traditional instruction methods, student demonstrations and discussions, Lab. activities and working at/on the agriculture land laboratory.  Students are expected to participate in ALL class activities including traditional book work as well as hands on, get dirty work in the school land laboratory with school project and demonstration animals.  Classroom instruction is further enhanced by students SAE projects that they can do at home as well as at school.  Students select projects in their area(s) of interest and through their projects students increase their knowledge, their abilities, and gain valuable employability skills.


    FFA is part of the curriculum for agriculture education.  FFA offers learning opportunities in the areas of teamwork, leadership, community service, and life lessons that change students’ lives and prepares them for life.  The 3 main points of the FFA mission statement are:  1) premier leadership, 2) personal growth, and 3) career success.  Founded in 1928, FFA is the largest student organization in the world.  FFA uses agriculture education to create real world success for its members. The motto of the FFA is: LEARNING TO DO, DOING TO LEARN, EARNING TO LIVE, LIVING TO SERVE.


    FFA membership is highly encouraged for all agriculture students as it is an integral part of the curriculum (approximately 1/3 of curriculum). Students will receive a heavy dose of what the Dunnellon Middle FFA has to offer whether they are members or not however unless official membership is made they will not be allowed to compete on teams or as individuals and see what the state and national levels of this student organization has to offer (Including scholarships, state and/or national championships, state and/or national officer selections, etc.) In short FFA membership allows students to expand their horizons, meet new people, and receive the full benefit of the agriculture education experience.



    Fall Course: Introduction to Agriscience Objectives:


    - Identify the importance of agriculture.

    - Integrate the use of science, mathematics, reading, geography, history, writing, and communication in agriscience and technology.

    - Describe chains between producer and consumer for agricultural products.

    - Use selected techniques to produce finished products from agricultural materials.

    - Describe the importance of plants and animals in agriculture.

    - Describe leadership and communication skills.



    Spring Course: Exploration to Agriscience Objectives:


    - Apply knowledge and skills in the area of agricultural research and related professions.

    - Apply knowledge and skills in biotechnology.

    - Apply knowledge and skills in plant sciences.

    - Apply knowledge and skills in animal sciences.

    - Demonstrate knowledge and skills in food science.

    - Apply knowledge and skills in processing and marketing.

    - Apply knowledge and skills in environmental resources.

    - Demonstrate the value of responsibility, good work habits, and planning for career          opportunities in agriculture.

    - Apply leadership and communication skills.

    - Integrate the use of science, mathematics, reading, geography, history, writing, and        communication in agriscience and technology.



    Classroom Rules:

    • Arrive on time, prepared for class
    • Be respectful to/of teacher, classroom guests and classmates
    • NO HORSEPLAY! - In the class and shop, as well as at the land laboratory or greenhouse. We will have a Zero tolerance on this issue. This is not a typical classroom, your actions could seriously injure yourself, another student, or our animals so anyone caught horse playing will receive an automatic referral.

      • Outside work:  Animal Land Lab Activities– The student will be given a grade for working in the lab.  Therefore the student should come to class prepared to work outside.  Any student found out of his/her assigned area will be written up for skipping.
    1. Be prepared to work outside and wear the appropriate clothing: closed toed shoes and no loose garments.
    2. Students must stay seated in their chair, not on their desks.
    3. Students must not lean back in their chairs.
    4. Students must ask permission to leave the class or work area.
    5. Swearing is considered disrespectful and will not be tolerated.
    6. Students must pick up all garbage around the shop, class, and land lab and dispose of it properly.
    7. Cheating on any class work will result in a 0 grade.
    8. Cell phones should not be seen or heard.
    9. No Electronic Devices unless permission has been given by the teacher..
    10. If you do not wear the correct shoes on a day we go outside, you will be given a “0%” for that day and stand on the fence while we are outside.

    *Make Up work is YOUR Responsibility.  Make Up work will be accepted according to the school rules/policies.  When returning from an absence, request your make up work so that you may complete it in the allotted time.  Late work will not be accepted after the allotted time, i.e. You Cannot Wait until the End of the Grading Period to Make-up Missed Work.
