    Mrs. Balius, Principal

Thank you for taking the time to visit Romeo's Website.  I am very fortunate to be appointed Principal of Romeo Elementary School in February 2015. I have truly enjoyed getting to know all of the students, teachers, staff and families of Romeo Elementary.

Let me start with providing a little background about my self. I currently live in Ocala. I have lived there my entire life. I graduated from Vanguard High School and then attended CFCC, University of North Florida and University of Florida. I have been in the field of education for 26 years and have loved every second of my career. I was a classroom teacher in the field of special education for 14 years. I served as a resource specialist for FDLRS serving a six county region, worked as a Program Specialist for the office of Staff Development, and served as an Assistant Principal for 5 1/2 years at Evergreen and Harbour View Elementary Schools.  I am married and have an elementary school age child. I enjoy photography, cheering on the Gators, cooking, gardening and fishing.

I am excited to be leading such a wonderful school into the future. We have so many exciting Parent Engagement activities planned for the 2015-16 school year and I know that you will enjoy participating in them as well.  Currently we will be rolling out with our Preventing Summer Slide Program(Summer Slide is regression in the area of reading that occurs over the summer months because students are not practicing reading on a regular basis). Students in grades K-4th will be bringing home backpacks this summer along with activities to build reading skills. We will have several Summer Swap Spots where students will have opportunities to swap their books with another student and keep the interest in reading high by having new books to read. Many community resources have contributed to the funding of this project including Altrusa, 100 Grandparents, anonymous community donors, and the Dunnellon Community Thrift Shop. The Preventing Summer Slide Project would not be possible without their support.
