Welcome, Chiefs!

I am Susan (Oberteuffer) Mitchell, and I am SO grateful and excited to be returning for my 5th year as the Media Specialist for Osceola. I am married with two children, West (22) and Anna (18). West is currently serving in the Navy as a Combat Medic, in training now in Panama City Florida for Combat Dive certifcation. He will be stationed in Okinawa in 2020. He is in a special training called SARC-Special Amphibious Recon Corpsman.  My daughter Anna is a SENIOR (!) in the IB program at Vanguard High School, and plays Varsity soccer and is also on the VHS Swim team.  My husband Scott and I moved to Ocala 13 years ago from Gainesville, when he took his current position at the Silver River Museum at Silver Springs State Park.

I worked at Eighth Street Elementary before coming to Osceola, I really enjoy seeing all my former students when they come to the Library, although pretty soon I will not know them as they are growing up so fast! Other jobs that I have had before becoming a librarian include being a Zookeeper at Busch Gardens, working for an archaeology firm in St. Petersburg, and working as a landscaper. I really love being in the Media Center though, and it my greatest wish to have EVERY student find a book that inspires them, as well as the love of reading while they are here at OMS.

Becoming a librarian has been a dream come true--I always have stacks of books at home that I hardly have time enough to read, and I feel very lucky that both my kids love to read too. I feel that reading is TRULY the key to success both in school, and in life--the ability to read, understand, and communicate well will NEVER go out of style! READING IS POWER.

I look forward to many years at Osceola; and I hope to make the Media Center a welcoming, open, and creative place for students to come read, research, study and think.

Check out the rest of the MEDIA CENTER page for our Twitter question of the week, and posts, as well as some great links to videos, BookFair and more!

Thanks for visiting my page, I look forward to seeing all of you in the Media Center!

SO, for 2019-2020 What's #yourstory?
