Susan (Oberteuffer) Mitchell
Welcome, Chiefs! I am Susan (Oberteuffer) Mitchell, and I am SO grateful and excited to be the Media Specialist at Osceola again this year! I am married with two children, West (20) and Anna (16). West is currently serving as a Corpsman to Marine Corps units at Camp Pendleton, CA. He is scheduled to start the SARC training program soon, which is a Special Amphibious Recon Corpsman. Anna is a Sophomore in the IB program at Vanguard High School, and plays travel soccer with the Top Seed "Eagles" team. My husband Scott and I moved to Ocala 11 years ago from Gainesville, when he took his current position at the Silver River Museum at Silver Springs State Park.
I worked at Eighth Street Elementary before coming to Osceola, I really enjoy seeing all my former students when they come to the Library. Other jobs that I have had before becoming a librarian include being a Zookeeper at Busch Gardens, working for an archaeology firm in St. Petersburg, and working as a landscaper. I think that two of my best jobs are being a wife and mom, though!
Having always been a booklover, becoming a librarian has been a dream come true! I have stacks of books at home that I still haven't had time to read, and I feel very lucky that both my kids love to read too. I feel that reading is TRULY the key to success both in school, and in life--the ability to read, understand, and communicate well will NEVER go out of style!
I look forward to many years at Osceola; and I hope to make the Media Center a welcoming, open, and creative place for students to come read, research, study and think.
