    Weekly Class Information:

    8/13/18

It was great meeting all of my students so far this week!!! :)

This week we have gone over the rules and procedures of the class and reviewed those for the school.  They began their iReady Diagnostic test.  This allows us to make sure that they are in the correct math class.

    8/20/18

This week the students continued to work on their iReady Diagnostic Test.  This test was used to determine if students were in the correct class, so it was important.  I also introduced Khan Academy to some students, but I went through and got everyone into Khan Academy and working.  This was necessary because Khan Academy will be used as a review tool, and the students will get graded on their completion of the assignments (Tip: the videos must be watched... if they are skipped you won't get credit in Khan Academy, nor when it is graded).

    8/27/18

This week we will got into the Number System Unit.  Starting with Math Florida Standard MAFS.8.EE.1.2.  There is a link on the main page to the standards, but this standard covers square and cube roots.  They are also assigned Khan Academy for homework.  They will always have homework, and it will be in Khan Academy.  If the students don't have access to a computer at home, they need to see me immediately to discuss a plan to get the homework done, but they will still be responsible for the work because it is important to their growth in math.

    9/3/18

This week we were still working with the Number System Unit, but we decided as a class to take a step backwards to review operations of integers.  So we started with adding and subtraction integers this week.  Everyday we work on multiplication facts for bellwork.  I have noticed that many of the students struggle with them.  Please have the students to practice these.  They are also assigned Khan Academy for homework.  They will always have homework, and it will be in Khan Academy.  It is assigned on Mondays and it is due by 11:59 pm on Sundays.  If the students don't have access to a computer at home, they need to see me immediately to discuss a plan to get the homework done, but they will still be responsible for the work because it is important to their growth in math.

    9/10/18

This week we were still working with the Number System Unit, but we decided as a class to take a step backwards to review operations of integers.  This week we will be working on multiplying and dividing integers. **This week the students will have 2 quizzes... one on multiplication facts and another on adding and subtracting integers**

    9/17/18

This week we were still working with the Number System Unit, and we were still working with multiplying and dividing integers and rational numbers.  This skill set is something that will prove to be useful as we go further in the curriculum.

    9/24/18

This week we were still working with the Number System Unit.  We have moved back into our 8th grade curriculum of 'Real Numbers'.  This week we reviewed Square and Cube Roots. **Next week on Tuesday the students will take a quiz on perfect square and cube roots.**

    10/1/18

This week we took the perfect squares and perfect cube roots quiz.  The did pretty good overall :).  We then moved on to converting decimals to fractions (and visa versa).  This lesson lasted a few days, because the classes as a whole struggled with the division aspect.

    10/8/18

This week we learned/relearned what rational and irrational numbers are, and how to estimate square roots. **Next week on Thursday the students will take a quiz on classifying real numbers.**

    10/15/18

This week we were still working with the Number System Unit. We really practiced and reviewed the classifications of real numbers (which is a 6th grade skill).  They took the quiz on Thursday, but the classes didn't do so well.  So on Friday we reiewed again, and they will RE-take the quiz on Tuesday.  Afterwards they will have time in class to work on their homework IN CLASS.

    10/22/18

This week was a testing week for iReady, and an Early Release.  So this week was a week to breath as much as possible.  After completing their iReady growth checks they were able to work on their homework in class again.  They also did a fun review this week.  BACK TO WORK NEXT WEEK... lol.

    10/29/18

This week we are back to the Number System Standards.  The plan for this week is to finish out the Real Numbers Unit with comparing real numbers.  I will be handing out their Real Numbers Unit Study Guide.  They will have a day to work on it in class, and then they will play a review game in preparation for the test on Tuesday & Wednesday.  This test they are able to use their notes, and if they turn in their Study Guide completed they will earn extra credit points.
