by R.J. Palacio Year Published: 2012 Fiction
From inside book flap:
"August (Auggie) Pullman was born with a facial difference that prevented him from going to a mainstream school--until now. He's about to enter fifth grade and Beecher Prep, and if you've ever been the new kid, then you know how hard that can be. The thing is Auggie's just an ordinary kid, with an extraordinary face. But can he convince his new classmates that he's just like them, despite appearances?"

Students will watch Ocala Civic Theatre's performance of the play, "Fit," a story about bullying and tolerance.
From the play's synopsis:
"Lucas doesn't fit in. It's three days before his twelfth birthday, but there's not much to celebrate. His mom is a disaster of good intentions, his teacher is the master of misery, Randolph the Human Reflux sings insulting tunes, and the cute new girl thinks he's weird. Even the kid Lucas wants to be, The Most Average Ordinary Kid in School, doesn't want anything to do with Lucas. But Lucas learns that, like an optical illusion, things are not always how they appear. This funny, touching play about a boy and his quest to be like everyone else--even though everyone else is a little messed up--will leave you laughing at the fact that even people who are different are really a lot alike."
