  • Hello Parents and Guardians,

First off, I want to say I miss seeing the kids and hope everyone in your family and friends are well. I know that this is going to be a trying time for all of us and we will make it through together. I will work hard to maintain open communication and if you have any questions or concerns please let me know. Primarily, we will continue to use ClassDojo as our main form of communication. I will also include any information conveyed thru ClassDojo in an email as well. If anyone needs to update this information, please send a Dojo message or an email and I will update accordingly.

The plus side...Our class has been using digital resources and so the transition will hopefully be seamless. We will continue to use our MCPS Portal to login from whatever device the student is using to access assignments, instructions, and links to assignments. The students should know their login information, if you need me to send it to you, please send me an email and I'd be happy to do so. I would advise to use the student's purple folder which has other important login information (iXL and AR). I will also be sending out/posting additional login information for additional resources we will be using for the rest of the year and keeping this information all in one place is imperative.

Resources we will be using (additional resources may be added as they become available):

    1. MCPS Portal

    2. Google Classroom

    3. i-Ready

    4. AR - Accelerated Reader

    5. Readworks.org

    6. Brainpop.com

    7. Smarty Antz

    8. Teacher Your Monster to Read

    9. Science Studies Weekly

    10. Social Studies Weekly

    11. Discovery Education

    12. TBA

There are additional resources that have become available for us since the shutdown and anything new I will make sure I send that information out.

Starting Wednesday, April 1, 2020, I will be posting assignments in Google Classroom. The students should log in daily and check for assignments posted. Currently, our minimum requirements are to have 3 assignments for math and language arts, 1 in Science and 1 in social studies. One grade from each per week will be input in the grade book.

I will be available Monday thru Friday in the morning from 7:45 a.m. - 8:45 a.m. and in the afternoon from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. I will do my best to check ClassDojo and email regularly and respond within 24 hours (hopefully sooner).

We will get through this and if you need anything, anything at all, please let me know.

Again, thank you for all you do!

  • Parents and Students,

It is a pleasure to have your kids in my class this year! I am so excited to be in my third year here at Dr. N.H. Jones Elementary. From my experience we have the best students around. I look forward to a very successful year teaching second grade.

We will work hard this year to master all of the standards and will track our progress. The students will be responsible in determining when they have mastered each standard. Once we agree they have mastered the standards they will sign the standard and we will display it on the mastery wall. We will practice and practice makes perfect (thank goodness Panther Home connection is back so we can reinforce what we are learning at school at home).

On a personal note, I am a married father of two, Miller is eight in third grade here at Dr. N.H. Jones Elementary and Mary Frances is eleven in sixth grade at North Marion Middle School. I know how awesome the students, faculty, and staff are because I’ve seen it firsthand for the last six years as a parent and the last three years as a teacher. I love music (Michael Franti), kayaking (Silver and Rainbow Rivers and any other waterway I can drop in to), camping (SOSMP) and anything outdoors. My favorite color is PURPLE!!! My favorite sport is soccer (futbol) and I love the Orlando City Lions aka, OCSC, City, Orlando City SC. I love the Jacksonville Jaguars...DUUUUVAL!!!, UCF Knights, Florida Gators, and FSU Seminoles (except when they play the Gators).

I will be using ClassDojo as lines of communication and for behavior tracking and it is the best way to get a hold of me with any concerns. Please feel free to reach out with any questions that may arise. The standards focus board will list the day’s topic, standard, learning goal, and daily agenda. I will be using many different mediums to teach your kids. We will use our Go Math, CKLA (language arts texts), KhanAcademy, Discovery Education, Social/Science studies weekly, STEMscopes, Google Classroom, and many other resources to deliver instruction. Ideally, the students will be engaged in each subject daily and we will work hard to assure the mastery of the standards we will be working toward.

If you have any questions please direct message me on ClassDojo or by email at Cary.Brooks@marion.k12.fl.us
