Class Description

    This course is designed to assist with administrative and general office duties in a support capacity.  It will explore and expand the core competencies in the areas of personal and professional development and promote application of higher level office procedures tasks and communications skills through the use of technology.  AOT includes advanced word processing and spreadsheet skills, database creation and maintenance, digital publishing, soft skills, and proofreading. Programs covered will include Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point.  Students will be doing a variety of projects both individually and with partners.

    This course does not qualify you for Bright Scholars; however, it does qualify for Gold Seal.

    Prerequisite: Successful completion of CCC, IIT, or DIT

    Course Objectives:

    By the end of this course, you should be able to:

    1. Demonstrate knowledge, skill, and application of information systems to accomplish job objectives and enhance workplace of performance.

    10. Perform administrative office functions and responsibilities to accomplish job objectives and enhance workplace performance.

    Class Expectations

    AOT is a self-paced curriculum, students are expected to work at their own pace, and however, each student should follow the guidelines below in order to stay on top of what is required.  Students are expected to enter the class and immediately sign on to their assigned station. Students are to be:

    • To Be Prompt
    • To Be Prepared
    • To Be Polite
    • To Be Productive

    All assignments must be completed during designated class time unless other arrangements have been made with the instructor.  Students who do not use class time to work on assignments will not be allowed additional time. 

    Electronic devices and surfing the web are prohibited in the classroom. 

    Supplies Needed:

    • There is a $10.00 lab fee to help pay for paper and ink that the student will use throughout the school year.  Due by September 21, 2018. If you are making out a check, please make it out to Dunnellon High School.   If a student does not pay the lab fee, they will be put on the debt list.
    • Students will need a notebook or folder to be used for class work.
    • Notebook paper, pens and pencils, highlighters. (Blue or black ink only)
    • Earbuds/headphones to use for specific assignments during class.

    If you are absence, you will be required to complete all assignments before moving to the next level.








    Grading Percentages

    • Writing/Reading--10%
    • Classwork/Quizzes—35%
    • Tests/Projects--55%

    Class participation is VERY important in this class.


    All assignments are posted on my school webpage.  If you are absent, you should check there for what you have missed and when it is due.  Make up work will be handled in accordance with the MCSS policy listed in the Student Handbook.


    Productive Academic Work or P.A.W. Time is a 35-minute period on Thursdays and Fridays.  The time is set aside for students to work on academic issues, make up tests/quizzes, enrichment, study hall, and reading and writing skills.  This time will also be used for guidance appointments, pep rallies, college visits, etc.

    This is not a social time.  Students are expected to have something to work on.  If they don’t, teachers will be providing something academically for them to do.  Students are required to fill out completely the log book for PAW time when they leave or enter my room.

    The expectation of P.A.W. time will be:  The student must come see me Monday-Wednesday AND NO LATER than Thursday morning to retrieve a P.A.W. Pass. If the P.A.W. Pass is not planned ahead of time the student will not be permitted to leave their P.A.W. teacher's classroom to come to my room on that Thursday or Friday. THIS MUST BE PLANNED AHEAD OF TIME.

    How the P.A.W. PASS WORKS: The student will show the P.A.W. Pass to their P.A.W. Time teacher and will then be released to report to my classroom for tutoring/make-up work. When the student reports to my class I will then collect their P.A.W. Pass & keep for safe record keeping as well as the student will sign in on the log sheet for documentation purposes.  

    It is the responsibility of the student to utilize P.A.W. Time.


    • When homework/classwork is assigned it is expected to be turned in on time. 
    • Late assignments may have points deducted. 
    • Work that is more than 1 week late will not be accepted unless prior arrangements have been made with the instructor.


    1. Printing a copy of your work for another student.
    2. Using a USB drive or any other portable device to save your work for another student to print and turn in as their work.
    3. Emailing answers to another student.
    4. Sharing answers with another student on any assignment, quiz, or test.
    5. Plagiarism                                                                                      

    Cheating is unacceptable and students will receive a zero on each assignment that they have cheated on and they will be referred to the dean of discipline. (See student handbook concerning cheating).

    The teacher only allows students in designated programs. Any student who enters a program without the permission of the instructor will be referred to the dean of discipline. 


    Each student is assigned a workstation; they are responsible to clean up their assigned areas and return all borrowed materials to their proper places.

    • The computer systems (includes CPU, monitor, keyboard, mouse) are not to be altered in any way. This includes, but is not limited to adding, removing or changing icons on the desktop, defacing the desk or textbook, any part of the computer system, adding or deleting any programs, or damaging the chairs.
    • All USB drives or portable storage devices must be checked by the teacher for viruses before a student plugs into a computer system.
    • No cell phones or other devices are allowed to be plugged into any outlets or computers in this lab.
    • Parents are responsible for any damage to all equipment and textbooks that the student damages.


    1. Be on time for class, in your seat with all your necessary supplies, ready to start, when the bell rings.
    2. Cell phones must be turned off and out of sight and no other electronic devices are allowed in class.  
    3. Do not plug in any electronic devices into the computer or plugs in the room.
    4. Earbuds or headphones should be out of sight, unless needed to complete an assignment.
    5. USB’s are NOT to be used in the computer unless cleared with the teacher.  Students shoud save their work on the "One" drive.
    6. Do not download any programs to your school computer.  Refer to the Student's Code of Conduct.
    7. Assigned classwork and test must be completed during classtime or power hour.
    8. Come to class with your necessary supplies.
    9. No food, gum, candy, or drink allowed in the classroom.
    10. Work from bell to bell.
    11. Respect yourself and others.
    12. Adhere to all classroom, school, and district policies.
    13. Put your book bags in the designated area.
    14. No profanity, vulgar jesters, perfume, hair spray, hand lotions, or grooming.
    15. Being absent the day before an announced quiz or test, does not excuse the student from taking it on the assigned day.
    16. No passes during the first 10 minutes and the last 10 minutes of class will be allowed.  Students must correctly sign out in the Restroom log book under their name.
      1. Each student has 10 restroom passes for the nine weeks.  If a student has any unused restroom passes, they will receive 1 point extra credit for each one that is unused for the nine weeks.
    17. Do not lean back or wheel around in the chairs.
    18. Cleanup after yourself.
    19. The teacher dismisses you, not the bell.
